The King Don Juan Carlos expressed today his " firmer condemnation " to the terrorist attack perpetrated yesterday in Bilbao by the terrorist band ETA and there wished a prompt recovery Gabriel Ginés, the bodyguard of the councilman of the PSOE of the vizcaína locality of Galdácano, Juan Carlos Domingo Galíndez, who was hurt.

It seems that, during a lunch at the Royal Palace on Oct 12, the King and the President of Madrid had a bitter discussion. The topic was a well-known journalist, mentioned in all articles published in the Spanish and international press. That journalist asked for the King's abdication. The King is furious because of his comments and the President defended him.
I consider it a political manoeuver, to discredit this journalist, who shows a strong criticism towards the Govt.

This information seems to be contributed on the part of someone of certain ideology. Besides El País newspaper, another newspaper, El Mundo also has treated the same topic. Each one as it is interested to the political interests that it defends. Curiously the versions change from one to other one. Politicians' shame ... badly who speak more of the due thing, badly the Chairwoman of the Community of Madrid for opening a discussion that must not be kept in an official luncheon... The King must be more intelligent, at this moment the politicians and the press that supports them seem to be ready to extract benefit of any thing that could provide a vote ... the scruples do not exist.
 
I also read that apperently the King also told a cardinal cynically that instead of praying for him he could better do something about his reporters? The reporter who asked the King the abdication question was from a a station that is owned by the church.
Can anybody confirm this?

I agree lula, the King should keep such thoughts to himself and a close circle of family, friends and confidents, but maybe the situation of the last month had it´s effect on His Majesty´s mood (quite understandable).
 
Yes, Losantos, the journalist, famous (of negative form) for his excesses and his clashes, works the COPE, the radio of the Church. He represents to a right, very right, for many a bit radically. He criticizes to almost the whole people and has had several clashes with other journalists. The COPE it is a related radio to the PP, political group to which there belongs the Chairwoman of the Community of Madrid. Many people think that this type of Losantos's attitudes damage the PP, because it removes from all these voters moderated those who do not like certain attitudes.

The attitude of Esperanza Aguirre has seemed to me to be terrible, a public representative, cannot provoke the King of this form in an official luncheon ... a total lack of education. The King had to " bite the tongue ", for being the one who is ... but he is human and also he can lose the nerves, more when he is provoke this way. His commentaries do not stop being the same that a lot people have made great for time on this journalist.

So did Esperanza Aguirre leak this to the media herelf or did somebody overhear them?

If mr. Losantos is representing the far right, why would he start about an abdication or even trouble the King at all? But as you say it is damaging the PP, would that mean that most indignation is about the journalist and not about the Kings remark?

Thanks for explaining, lula, this is most interesting and we had a simular thing in The Netherlands a few years ago, where it is certainly not done to quote the Queen or any other member of the RF.
 
The great doubt is knows the one who has filtered it and with that intention. Losantos indicates the Presidet of the Government. It seems that from the government they indicate the Argentine ambassador ... a circus where they all want " to wash the hands ".

There is a sector of the Spanish right, which always has been critical with the King. On the one hand, because it was the right the one that lost all the power when the democracy came, and on the other hand, because personally the King has had a better relation with the governments of left sides. Often this sector forgets that the King has a few functions that the Constitution grants him, and they are the democratically chosen governments who decide and not the King. Often they involve the King in political questions, in that he cannot decide.

today I could see the more close possible the kings of Spain... pain is that it was badly a day because it rained before they arrived and I got wet enough, but we could greet them and are likeable, mainly the king...but, like always, the very elegant queen
