I've only seen a tiny little picture that went along with an article about Felipe and Letizia going out to dinner with King Juan Carlos, but many will be happy to know that Prince Felipe was sans beard. That's right--he shaved it off!

that's true, felipe shaved... btw, they went to eat to a restaurant called "la cucaracha".

The matter at discussion has been taken care of. Now let's get back to topic. Where are the Prince and Princess of Asturias now?

They showed up to dine with the King last night in Palma--and Felipe was WITHOUT beard. Alas, I have only seen one tiny photo.

I begin to suspect they won't be appearing in Athens. The next gig is Panama, September 1.

it's not like that. there is people in spain who like letizia and there are others who don't. most of the people who don't post in letiziaortizonline.com, but that doesn't mean there isn't people there who don't like her.
as for asturias and majorca, letizia went with felipe to sardeu and they also went together to majorca.
i don't think the spanish royals hate her, what's your source to say that?

I think Letizia is like all public figures, whether they be royals, politicians or celebrities or whatever. You will always have some people who dislike you, others who like you and people who fall somewhere in the middle and don't care or don't have a preference. Some people in Spain and abroad happen to like Letizia, others dislike her and others don't care one way or the other.

I don't think her new in laws dislike her though. The pictures from the regatta show Queen Sofia being very social and friendly with her daughter in law, and Cristina and Inaki celebrated Inaki's birthday with Letizia and Felipe in January, and all of the Spanish grandchildren seem to have taken a liking to Letizia. I think that whether the Spanish royals liked Letizia very much or not when Felipe was dating her was one thing, but now that she is married into the family and the future Queen of Spain whether they like it or not, they all seem to have that behind them and are putting their efforts into supporting, guiding and encouraing her in her new role as Princess of Asturias.

Here i put the article:

The Princes take to King of supper Don Felipe has shaved the beard that had left during its honeymoon Doña Letizia and Don Felipe went Sunday with the King to have supper to the restaurant the Spoon Bartholomew Llabrés Palm of Majorca His Majesty the King and Princes de Asturias continue in Majorca in this so special summer of goings and comings, while Reina and Dukes de Lugo and of Palma de Mallorca continue enjoying the Spanish triumphs in Athens. Don Juan Carlos, thus accompanied by Don Felipe and Doña Letizia, left the night Sunday to have supper. The chosen place was the restaurant the Spoon, a centric and popular corner, mainly the week ends. Like it was to hope, the visitors did not happen unnoticed more between the rest of the clients, who were surprised when seeing them to seat, like companions at table, in a table anyone followed by a séquito of escorts, peculiar photographers and. Nevertheless, surely which more than one it took seconds in recognizing the Prince, since "look" shines new: The beard has been shaved with which it has been seen him during the last weeks and that as much debate has waked up between the Press. Perhaps it has made it to adapt to a new image facing the season that begins. During the supper, the real companions at table tasted of a first typical appetizer of the place and, of second, the men showed preference for the calf with salad whereas Doña Letizia preferred the foie of lechal calf. Everything watered with a good wine. The fruit arrived in the end in form of tartaleta of hot plums, that shared between the three. And after a good food his it is one better social gathering. In it they were until the clock marked something more of midnight. Before going away to house they took leave of the table neighbors, between which, chances of the life, were Cinthya, the first woman of the ex- Beatle John Lennon, accompanied by their son, Julian Lennon, and by Fernando Dameto and his wife.

Activities:
On Tuesday the Princes fly to Panama for the Presidential Inauguration. They stay for two days. That weekend they return to Palma for an exhibit entitled: "Felipe, 30 years growing in Palma" or something like that. The following week they go to Budapest for a 3 (?) day visit. Also in September is the wedding of Felipe's cousin to the model Laura Ponte.

...they went to a restaurant called 'the cockroach'??? ...interesting...I hope the food was good!

well, in fact it was called "la cucaracha"

Well then the article I read was wrong--it said "la cuchara"--but this is a silly thread, no?

After reading the article it is La Cuchara. I definitley don't think any Spaniard would name their restaurant La Cucaracha no matter how warped their sense of humor were.

Rough translation of a news brief regarding Panama trip:

"The Princes of Asturias Felipe de Borbón and Letizia Ortiz, traveled today to Panama to attend the inauguration of the president-elect of that country, Martín Torrijos, the Spanish Royal House informed. In agreement with the official agenda, the couple will arrive in the capital of the Central American country on Tuesday morning, where they will be received by outgoing president Mireya Moscoso, and later they will meet with Torrijos. At the Spanish embassy, the princes will offer a lunch to personalities of the political, economic, and cultural life of Panama, they will later make a visit to the Canal and at night they will attend a supper offered by Moscoso."

As far as I know, the inauguration itself is on Wednesday, after which they will hold a reception for the Spanish colony in Panama before returning to Spain that same evening.

They seem to be travelling a bit lately but it is very short trips, nothing really substantial where Letizia can visit a hospital or make some kind of contact with people or children. I hope that will change. Are they going to do a tour of Spain, not just a photo opportunity like they have done in the past?

I would have to disagree with your assessment of trips to Presidential Inaugurations in Latin America as "not substantial". As for visting children, that's not the point of these kinds of trips--I would also suggest that entertaining politicians, intellectuals and other local influencials is as substantial as visting with children or the infirm, although not as photogenic.

These specific kinds of trips are first and foremost diplomatic/political trips in which the main purpose is the represenation of the Spanish state and, secondarily, increasing ties with the "powerful" people--Spain is the largest investor in Latin America and part of Felipe's job is to continue nurturing relationships, opening ties and opening opportunities, that's why he, and now they, always host a reception with local influentials. His trips to inaugurations have always been this short, just as the other dignataries attending these events stay for no more than a day or two.

Thanks lucys for the above pictures. Felipe looks very handsome in the fourth picture down.

And a very soft, lovely-coloured peach suit on Letizia.

I think its quite reasonable that Letizia would be tired. She's had a pretty gruelling schedule the past couple of months flying from Jordan to Rome to Mexico to the Dominican to Athens, not to mention the many duties within Spain. Not that I don't think she was a hard worker during her career as a journalist, but all those trips would leave anyone jet-lagged and feeling a bit sluggish. I know that she's had a couple of 'easier' days here and there such as the visit to her grandparents and watching the regattas, but when you've travelled that extensively it can take a bit of solid rest to really feel rested and rejeuvenated. And when you consider time zones on top of the jet lag, well, it's no surprise that Letizia may be looking a bit frazzled and tired.

As for pregnancy, well, I don't really think that's the case. Everyone wants her to be pregnant already and every week some magazine is reporting it but I think she is tired because she's been a non-stop hand shaking, smiling, greeting, Princess of Asturias.

I hope they wait a little before having children. They need time to settle into their roles.
