Thanks iceflower for all the pictures & keeping us up to date on the five day tour.
Is this part of the summer tour or is it something completley different?

You're welcome! From what I've understood it's not part of the
summer tour, but a normal official visit

Here's a gallery of the last event - the press conference:

Summary of article in Billed Bladet #26, 2010.
Slog sig løs på Bakken - Let his hair down at Bakken.
Written by Trine Larsen. (She usually specialise in Joachim and Alexandra and their families).

As you can tell from the pictures Prince Henrik and a number of his friends had a fun time in the amusement park, Bakken.

He started out in Bakkens Hvile, where women of ill repute used to sing songs children and small dogs shouldn't hear! They are of course now professional.
He was placed in a chair on stage and asked: "Shall I also sing"? And proceeded to sing a French love song: "Chanson d'Amour", while hugging the singing-girl, Dot Wessman (*) who in return sang a more folksy song, from the 1930's I believe. (It's pure nostalgia).
It didn't end there however. Henrik and his friends went for a ride in the rollercoaster and the water-rollercoaster and despite sitting between two friends he was pretty wet, when the ride was over! He laughed: "I hope I'll get dry because I'm going to Zirkus Nemo with my wife (**) later".
After all this and presumably still while he was wet he popped by the Cirkusrevyen (***) where he had a chat with the manager. The main poster for the revue depicts actors showing QMII and Henrik and the manager asked: "Do the Prince Consort think it resembles"?
Henrik laughed: "The clothes can resemble, that's very fine. But he hasn't got as big a belly as I".

Henrik got a little bit of time to dry up a little before meeting QMII nearby. They were going to Zirkus Nemo.
Zirkus Nemo is not a cirkus but a comedy show, with the actor and comedian Søren Østergaard. It's a very quirky humour and he did indeed perform at QMII's 70 birthday as he is one of her favourite comedian.
And the show was a success. PH & QMII were there with a number of their old friends and Prince Had to wipe tears of laughter away while Queen Margrethe laughed heartily.

(*) She is dating a politician in the EU-Parliament.

(**) Using the informal word for wife.

(***) A revue. Something pretty unique for Denmark. Every summer there are loads of revues all over DK, which in songs and scetches deal with current affairs and happenings since the year before in a satirical way. The DRF are of course prime targets.
Some are performed by amateurs some by professionals. This one, Cirkusrevyen, is the best known in DK, the tickets are incidentally sold out. Some of the very best parodies of the DRF have been seen in this revue.

And not sure where to put this one....

In Billed Bladet #26, 2010 a Ulla Rasmussen asks about Queen Margrethe's drooping eye.

Jon Bloch Skipper explains:
Since her childhood QMII has had a tendency to squint her left eye, when she is tired or not concentrated.

According to the doctor Erik Münster the reason is a lack of balance in the muscles which control the eye.
QMII wear glasses with minus 4.5 on her right eye and plus 0.25 on her left eye.

Summary of article in Billed Bladet #26, 2010.
Hu-hej hvor det går - Woo-hoo we're rocking.
Written by Annelise Weimann, who specialise in the Regent Couple and the CP-couple.

QMII & PH visited the Faroe Islands. For QMII it's the thirteenth time she is there and she is very fond of the rugged nature there.
Actually they flew there, then sailed out to Dannebrog so they could arrive officially and in style to the capital of Thorshavn.

One of the official task while up there is to attend a party. That means being recieved and treated to Eldvatn, which litterally means firewater = a wee dramm.
After the official dinner it was time for some dancing Faroeyar style! I.e. lining up in two lines, holding hands and dance away while singing countless verses. Queen Margrethe being profficient in Faroese, sang along while dancing - to all the verses! Prince Henrik who is less than proficient, did not.
Many wore the local folk costume, which costs about 20.000 DKK. (1 € = 7.6 DKK, so you do the math).
For once her hairdresser Poul Nejlund did not accompany the Queen, so she did her hair herself.

The party ended late at night but it was still light outside. At this time of the year the night are rarely completely dark over the eighteen islands that constitute the Faroe Islands. (Even in DK it's only dark for three or four hours at this time of the summer.

Traditional cooking is in again on the Faroe Islands and QMII & PH were served stuffed sheeps-head and they both seem to appreciate it.

The visit will be covered in more details next week.

And this concludes the summaries from this weeks edition of Billed Bladet.

Interesting - I've always wondered about her eye. I assume this means she was just born that way?

And is Faroese a dialect of Danish, or is it a separate language altogether?

Faroese is a separate language, which evolved (like Icelandic) distinctly from other Scandinavian languages due to geographic isolation.

Really nice pics from yesterday!

The day before, on Thursday evening, July 1st, right after they
came back from the Faroe Islands, Queen Margrethe and Prince
Henrik attended a ballet performance of Hans Christian Andersen's
"The Swineherd" at the Tivoli. The following article includes a pic
taken during the evening, it also says that the couple stays at
Marselisborg Castle, where there'll be another birthday celebration
for Queen Margrethe this evening. On Monday she'll be back in
Copenhagen for several official events.

Thanks Iceflower

As you can read from Iceflower's post, Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik have now returned from the Faroe Islands and they have now taken up residence at Marseliborg Manor, where they spend a number of weeks every year.

The local newspaper, Århus Stiftstidende has of course covered the whole thing.
Including a buffet Saturday evening in the garden. 130 guests where there. It's a socalled local reception with local politicians and other dignitaries.
The gentlemen were suffering in suit and tie, because it was very hot that day! The ladies wearing light summerdresses.
The buffet/reception ended at 21.00.

One of the politicians, from Socialist People's Party, Dorthe Laustsen said: "I'm not a big fan of the monarchy, but they are here and then I believe we should treat them with consideration. That's why I'm here". (*)

A music corps from the army entertained the guests.

Here is an article: http://stiften.dk/article/20100704/AAS/707039790/1003

And a gallery: http://spotted.stiften.dk/galleries/index.php?id=3558
I don't know what the plate is, presumably a present for QMII.

(*) Well, that was mighty kind of her. The cynic within me cannot help wondering if her attitude will be moderated a bit more, once she recieve her first order...
Her party chairman, the very popular and in many ways the de facto leader of the opposition, Willy Søvndal, certainly have no qualms about rubbing shoulders with royalty.

Marselisborg Manor/Slot is pretty unique in the sense that it's located at the outskirts of a wood with the bay to one side and the city of Århus to the other.
Standing next to Marselisborg you feel you are in a wood with a view over the bay and the city is far away, eventhough you only have to walk down a road and walk for two kilometres and you suddenly find yourself in the middle of a busy city centre.
When arriving to Århus by ferry it's pretty deceptive. There is the harbour in the centre of the bay and to both sides for several kilometres are woods. Behind that you can hint the city. To the south, peering over the trees you see Marselisborg on a hill.
You do not realise that the city is hidden behind the woods until afterwards.
So when a member of the DRF living at Marselisborg, you are at a comfortable stroller/pram distance from the beach to one side with a marina at the end of it, the woods to another side, a park in yet another direction, an amusement park just around the next cluster of trees and downtown Århus when you walk north.

Summary of a number of articles in Billed Bladet #27, 2010.
All written by Annelise Weimann, who specialise in the Regent Couple and the CP-couple.

It was the thirteenth time Queen Margrethe visited the eighteen islands that constitute the Faroe Islands. (*)
After having arrived to Thorshavn and been recieved in style it was time for a tour of the islands. Unfortunately the weather in the North Atlantic is very unpredictable, so a visit to two islands had to be skipped.
Prince Henrik, who suffered from pains to his legs, also had to skip an event or two.

One of the visits was to the island of Mykenes. But in a climate where the weather can change within the hour, that almost had to be cancelled, but sudden hole in the skis enabled the Regent Couple to fly to Mykenes and the ten inhabitants who were waiting. Including two children and a school teacher.
The small communities on the Farose islands are known to be religously devout so there is also a church on the island.
There are as elsewhere on the islands, loads of birds nesting on the cliff faces, that includes the gannet, which only breed on this island.
Apart from the ten humans there are thousands of sheep on the island.

Now, an official visit also includes visiting various businesses, industry, schools and that was of course the case here. But also a visit into the Nordoya-tunnel, which is 7.5 kilometres long connectiong two islands. The special thing about this tunnel is the light. A local artist has arranged the illumination in a more spectacular fashion. (**)
Prince Henrik, who doesn't speak of word of the local lingo, contended himself by, in his usual jolly manner, asking every child within eyesight: "What's your name? - How old are you"? In Danish. - With a heavy French accent. Apart from that he was very interested in the local cuisine, hoping to find some inspiration for a new recipe.

The scenery on the Faroe islands is spectacular to say the least! So the Regent Couple were sailed to Hestoy to see the cliffs with nesting birds there. The sea that day was fairly calm, meaning that 95% of the human race would be hopelessly seasick. Not so the Regent Couple, they are rarely affected by a few waves. (***)
The cliffs are a major tourist attraction (****) and they are among the highest in the world. In the old peple lowered themselves down from cliff tops to pick eggs, now they just do it for sport. (*****)

After having admired the birds and perhaps visa versa it was time for some culture, so the boat sailed into the Klæmints Cave, where three musicians entertained in a setting with a pretty impressive acoustic.

All this bring about a healthy appetite so they sailed to Koltur island, where the two inhabitants there treated the Regent Couple to a lunch and a wee dramm. In fact the population on that island increased with several thousand percent that day as a number of locals also went to the island, including a somewhat reversed flower girl, in the shape of one year old Lykke Maria, who was so intrigued with the bouquet QMII was holding that the Queen gave the girl a neat lilac flower.
Now, if you live on an island with two inhabitans, chances are that your dinner table isn't that big. As such only the inhabitants and the Regent Couple could sit at the table, everybody else had to eat on the grass outside.
Another reason for visiting this island was to see how things had progressed in regards to restoring a number of beautiful old houses. And one house was duly opened by the Queen. (******)

During the press conference at the end of the visit a TV reporter quoted a local girl, who defined a queen as: "A wife/mature woman who is in charge".
QMII: "That is sort of a good description of what it could be".
Q: Who is in charge in your household?
QMII: "Who is in charge at our home? You'd rather ask my husband about that".
Q: Everywhere you have been surrounded by children. Have you begun to be more interested in small children, after you have become a grandmother (farmor) yourself?
QMII: "Who knows, but that might be".

The Queen, who has openly admitted that she previously felt (and looked) very akward when dealing with smaller children, was seen to be much more at ease with the children she encountered on this visit.

(*) About 45.000 inhabitants in total. A little less than the total number of inhabitants of Greenland.

(**) A lot of tunnels were built a number of years ago at a huge cost, leading the Danish taxpayes to more or less foot the bill. That resulted of course in a number of less than flattering jokes in Denmark about the ongoing tunnel constructions, including joking about plans for a tunnel connecting Thorshavn and Copenhagen.
And labbelling the island the Bankruptcy-Islands. The Faroese didn't think that was amusing!

(***) Nor are Frederik and Joachim. QMII in a recent documentary didn't mention Mary as having strong sealegs.

(****) If the weather even permits you going there or you are not lying in the bottom of the boat, wishing you were dead.

(*****) The scale of human folly never cease to amase me.

(******) The clever reader may ask her/himself why on earth you would wish to spend money on restoring houses on an island inhabited by two humans. - I don't know...

Didn't we have an Evita, the dachshund, biting a guardsman (again) thread somewhere?

Billed Bladet has a follow-up on that story. http://www.billedbladet.dk/Kongelige/Artic...20hundebid.aspx

The 24 years old conscript guardsman, who incidentally appeared in some reality show, recieced a slight bite by the dachshund Evita. He was (routinely) treated at the hospital.

He has afterwards explained that Prince Henrik personally apologised to him and gave him six bottles of wine.
The guardsman, Frederik Lilja said: "I really think the court has handled that in good style all the way".

The PR spokeswoman for the DRF, Lene Balleby, has said that measures will be taken in order to prevent such an incident happening again.

- Unfortunately it's far from the first time Evita has bitten someone. I believe the dog ought to be put down. If the owner cannot or will not keep his dog under control, then too bad for dog. - In many such cases it's the owner who ought to be put down, that is however not an option....
Such repeated incidents are so annoying for myself as a dogowner, who actually try to keep our own family dog under control.

The DRF dogs are in a unique situation. The members of the DRF are immune form prosecution and as the incidents has taken place at the royal palaces, which at the same time a private homes and public buildings it's not a straightforward matter to deal with.
It's actually the Ministry of Defence who is responsible for the soldiers on duty if they are bitten by a royal dog.
However, the government agency (Arbejdstilsynet) which keep an eye of the safety on workplaces can issue a demand, directing that measures be set up to ensure the safety of the soldiers. A demand that MUST be obeyed! That could be building an enclosure for the dogs. - But the palaces are also private homes and the DRF are immune from such demands.... Are your heads starting to ache?

Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik attended the funeral of Countess
Irene Wedell at the Husby church near Wedellsborg Gods today, July
16, 2010. The Countess had died on July 9th aged 77 because of
cancer. She had been a good friend of Queen Margrethe and shared
her passion for the opera. In 1997 she had been the first to be awarded
with the honorary title of Kammerdame - the Queen's very own invention.

Prince Henrik today visited Frøslevlejren, he made a tour thorugh the
UN museum at the Frøslev camp, of which he is patron. The museum
describes the UN and NATO peace missions throughout the ages,
later Prince Henrik also visited to the veterans home.

Frøslevlejren itself has been a internment camp during the German
occupation during World War II..
