I'm sure they would love to publish the pics.

But there is the question of copyrights, if they lift a pic, especially of a well known person like Mary, from say Facebook without the original uploader's permission.
This is a picture that is worth money, while a picture that show a random guest from Boston is pretty worthless in Danish context.

Then there is the law on privacy.
As a guest at a private party Mary is protected by that law.
If there was no press invited for the party then it's private, period.
The excuse about "someone uploaded it on Facebook, and Facebook is public" won't convince a judge.

It's akin to BT stealing a picture from a photo-album.
After all Mary and the American ambassador isn't just anybody.
And then of course there is the little detail about the picture technically being taken on American territory.
And BT would like to present itself as a tabloid, but not a trashy tabloid...
- Plenty of "is it really worth it" considerations in regards to "circumnavigating" the law..

But let's see if the ambassadorial couple doesn't publish pictures themselves.

Thanks, Marye :)

Muhler, I am surprised they won't publish the pictures of Mary at the wedding. There have been pictures of Mary attending weddings and parties in the past. Is this a new law?

It could be that Crown Princess Mary was not alone in the pictures. The possible other person in the picture might take offense to the picture being published.

:previous: Follow up.

BT has described the picture: Mary festede med nygift ambassadør - Royale | www.bt.dk

The text describes pictures of two well known, Danish public figures, Mary and a politician who have worked personally with the ambassador, Nikolai Wammen.

Mary: Kronprinsesse Mary fordybet i samtale foran baren, hvor en tjener er i færd med at blande en drink. = Crown Princess Mary in deep conversation at the bar, where a waiter is mixing a drink.

Nikolai Wammen: Tidligere forsvarsminister Nikolai Wammen (S) med et langstilket glas i højre hånd og den venstre om livet på ambassadøren. = Former Minister of Defense Nikolai Wammen, with a long-stemmed glass in the right hand and the left around the waist of the ambassador.

There are as far as I can see two pictures from the private party. One picture focus on the happy couple cutting the cake - not the guests.
The other focus on the ambassador giving a speech - not the guests.
And that I guess is as far as BT is prepared to go.

I see BTW that the BB journalist Henrik Salling was present at the party. Perhaps as a guest?
https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?...10153666397043210.1073741834.533008209&type=3 - Uploading a photo of the ambassadorial feet after the wedding dance. - And that link led me to the picture of Mary. Henrik Salling and two friends are taking a selfie and Mary is standing in the background with a group of people - not at the bar, BT! In the vicinity of the bar only.

We can of course debate how "accidental" it was that Mary just "happened" to be in the background of that selfie...:p

ADDED: I will advise the mods not to post that selfie here. Apart from Mary having the right to some privacy, even at a party, there is also a difference between "lending" a pic from Jolene Average's Facebook profile and "lending" one from a journalist. Some of them can be pretty vindictive. Also towards a non-profit forum like this. - Those in the know need no reminding!

Congratulations to the happy couple. Their wedding has recieved a huge number of likes and tributes on Facebook.

The one picture where we can spot Mary in a group I'm 99 percent sure it's we can spot Frederik standing next to her :) Hope they had a nice wedding evening and are allowed to have a private evening once in a while.

Thank you, Muhler :flowers: Trend may be a fantastic place. Surrounded by nature and serenity. Ideal for a active outdoor family as the Crown Prince Family.

But before (and exactly as we talked about) Frederik, Mary and all four children yesterday visited Tivoli which is Halloween-decorated this week :pumpkin2:

----

Yesterday, Saturday the 10th October - F&M and children visited Tivoli in Copenhagen:

"CROWN PRINCE FAMILY VISIT "PHOENIX"
Among the 900 children and adults to today's show was a special family from Copenhagen with their four children: Christian, Isabella, Vincent and Josephine. Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary wished to experience 'Adventure Theatre's' family musical "Phoenix" with all their children and after the show they visited the young actors from The Adventure Theatre: Here, the two Princes and the two Princesses each received a "Phoenix-bird with gold feathers" as a magical memory of the performance which caused excitement in both children and adults in the Crown Prince family."

Yesterday evening, Frederik and Christian were spotted having a father-son-day out to a football match in Parken with grandpa Henrik and cousins Nikolaj and Felix.

First Frederik and Christian arrived. So they stood ready to receive Grandpapa Henrik who had picked up prince Felix and prince Nikolaj on his way.

- Do you have a scarf? Henrik asked Christian who proudly showed Grandpapa his Danish red/white football scarf.

- So you are Danish tonight, and I'm ... Oh, yes, I am both Danish and French, said Henrik to Christian.

A very nice picture of Christian surrounded big his older cousins. Now he his a part of the big boys:

Thank you for translating what they said.

Yes copyright issues but I thought the press couldn't take pictures and post them, I think I misunderstood something somewhere :)

:previous: That was covered by the second part of my reply.

The law on privacy.
If it's a private party without the press being invited: no photographs.
It's akin to the press just walking in at a random private wedding party and start to take pictures of the guest and then publish them in the paper the next day. - That's a criminal offense.

However, if the press publish pictures from a private party that someone else has uploaded on Facebook and similar places, then it begins to be tricky. Because the original uploader has the copyrights and strictly speaking the press needs permission for using them. Especially because it's for commercial use.
And a guest photographed at such a party is a private person, in a private place, so unless you have the permission of that guest the press can't use the picture.

BT opted to show Facebook snaps of the American ambassador and his husband, because the wedding was very public and the press had been present all day, except at the private party. - But strictly speaking...
Should the ambassador sue, I am more than confident he would win hands down in a Danish court for breach of his privacy. And the uploader could sue for for breach of copyrights unless BT has his/her permission - which I doubt.
In this case where a journalist, who obviously was a guest at the party as well, uploads a selfie where Mary (and Frederik) just "happens" to be in the background, BT seemed to avoid going there at all.
Partly IMO because a fellow journalist is familiar with the laws on privacy and partly because it could affect the journalists chances of being invited to similar parties again and that's bad for a journalist who makes a living covering royals, celebs and such parties! - So he would be pretty p*ssed and probably sue BT.

And that's why I advised against showing that selfie here.

There are of course lots of pictures of reality stars and similar celebs in private settings in the papers. They are pretty safe to publish because the celebs themselves are interested in the attention. - But they could sue and have a very good chance of winning.

Have you never wondered why despite M&F and J&M attending lots of private parties there are so few such pictures of them in the DK press? Despite the fact that everyone nowadays have a phone and therefore a camera?
Because people are considerate and never take photos of the royals? Well, a lot of people are of course.
But the press get a lot of offers from people wanting to sell photos of celebs and royals, and in most cases they decline because the photos are illegal. Having said that, the press do sometimes buy photos, for their own archives. Say of a married celeb at a swinger club - alone. But the photos can't be published.

You remember Harry and him stripping in a hotel room in Las Vegas?
Had it happened in a hotel room in Copenhagen, the one who took the pictures and sold them would have committed a criminal offense and the editors of Danish papers and magazines publishing them would also have come under the penal code. - In DK it's allowed to act silly in private.
The one who took the pictures couldn't even be safe if she sold the pics to foreign magazines. If she's on Danish soil, or returns to DK or is returned to DK she will face charges. And because it's a blatant criminal offense, the police don't even have to wait for the court to take action.
- Not to mention the subsequent civil lawsuit!

- Had Harry been snorting cocaine then it would have been a different matter, because now we are talking about a prominent royal who is an addict and perhaps out of control. And that means the press would have a case for publishing them under Danish legislation.

Also, if Mary is photographed at a private party having a row with Frederik and the press publish it, it's illegal. People are allowed to quarrel.
However, if Mary is photographed in a private garden kicking Ziggy repeatedly and the press publish it, then it's okay. - Because Mary is doing something illegal herself and she is such a prominent person that it is in the public interest to be informed.
- I have a friend who is a professional photographer and the above example was used at the school he went to, albeit with the then PM instead of Mary.

Muhler, does this law also apply to videos, or just snapshots? If it applies to videos, then the video of Frederik at the nightclub a few days before the twins' christening was sold illegally. BTW, did they ever find out who took the video, and was there any legal action? To be clear: I'm not wanting to start another rehash of that incident, I'm simply curious about the outcome as it applies to this topic.

:previous: That applies to all photographic and audio recordings but not descriptions and quotes.

In other words: You can't photograph, film or record say M&F having a row in a private place. - But you can tell about it. Unless you are an employee of the court or have a similar function covered by - what do you call it? - a pledge of confidence.

As for the nightclub. That's an interesting one. Because is a nightclub, open to the general public, a public place or a private place? There is an argument for that.
In this case it was IMO not a criminal offense but since Frederik did not give his permission and the owner did not give his permission for photos of his guests to be published I'd say Frederik and the owner would have won, had they sued. (*)
It is, again IMO, not "significantly newsworthy for the public" that the Crown Prince is photographed dancing or talking to a woman in a nightclub.

But, if the Crown Prince is photographed in a nightclub with his tongue down the throat of a woman who is not his wife, then we can talk about this being "significantly newsworthy".

(*) I remember the owner was flipping mad! And he makes a living on celebs "being seen" in his nightclubs and he's a celeb himself.

:previous:
A week. Week 42 has been the autumn holiday for many, many years. It used to be called the Potato Holiday back when DK was predominantly an agricultural society.
Back then children were needed for the potato harvest, so they were kept home from school anyway by their parents, so a virtue was made out of necessity and it became an annual school holiday.

We don't celebrate Thanksgiving, for obvious reasons of course, so the next school holiday is the Christmas holiday.

"Potato holiday" I love it and can understand why the farmers needed all hands in the fields during that week.

:previous: You are welcome. :)

Okay, I think we can count on M&F having gone to Trend by now.
So I thought we should touch the subject of "hygge".

Hygge is very difficult to define because it is essential about creating an atmosphere and surroundings in order to feel snug, safe, relaxed.
We Danes (and the rest of Scandinavia) don't have a monopoly on "hygge", but we cultivate it very much and a place like Trend is ideal for creating such an atmosphere.

Let my try and describe (later illustrate) what "hygge" can be.
Hygge can be a late autumn evening in summer cottage along the West coast of Jutland.
You sit in a couch beside your wife under a blanket. Opposite sit a couple of your friends. You can hear the wind outside and the rain against the dark windows that are lit up by candles. You feel your cheeks blush after the long stroll along the beach and you can still sense the sea in scent of your wife's hair. Your dog is lying in front of the fireplace, loudly gnawing on a bone.
There is still a faint smell in the air of the cakes you heated in the oven.
There isn't much light except for a couple of lamps in the corners and the candles here and there. There is no TV, no radio, it's not needed. You sip from a glass of wine and laugh of a silly remark from your friend while your wife munch down yet another piece of chocolate.
You know your children are safely asleep in their bunks and you feel, good, warm, safe, comfortable and relaxed in this little cave you have created.
Sometimes the conversation stop but you don't feel that the least bit awkward.

Now, how does that look?
Something like this perhaps:

Have I ever told you that we are pretty obsessive with candles here in DK?

- In my archive somewhere, I have some pictures of M&F's home, back when they lived at Kancellihuset and they had created an atmosphere of genuine "hygge". I'll see if I can dig it up.

I think hygge has been described by Mary and Frederik as "coziness" but more.
I recognized the word now ;)

and seeing Christian with his cousins at the soccer game with his scarf reminded me of this picture from a few years, looking cute with his scarf

Muhler you are so good at describing moods. And yes, it is impossible to say 'Denmark' without mentioning the word 'hygge'.

I can imagine Trend not only will have 'hygge' in the form of candles, but also with fire in the fireplace. So cold it is in Denmark these weeks the fireplace can now be used.

A picture more from F&M and children in Tivoli:
"So lovely to see you "live" last Saturday among us all other common families."

https://fbcdn-sphotos-f-a.akamaihd...._=1452322515_ea84b3922c101aa1b64097ba746a47ac

We've only got a few pictures - three pictures published by Tivoli's teather themselves and a few from ordinary Danes spotting them on their way. That is so great and very Danish. (Although I would lie if I would say I wouldn't had loved to have seen clearer pictures, F&M's foursome are adorable!)

Thanks Muhler. I read Frederik and Mary were also invited to the wedding at the Copenhagen City Hall during the day, but had sent their apologies as they had prioritized their day in the theater and Tivoli with the children. But then they attended the party in the evening instead.

***

Tomorrow is a big day for the Crown Prince family - it's Christian's 10th birthday - and I guess the Royal Court will publish new lovely pictures.

Until then ... Think that this is already ten years (and three more children) ago! :)

Has Joachim (and Marie) ever been seen/photographed out somewhere with Christian (his godson) or any of his brothers kids?

:previous: Hmm, not that I recall.

:previous: Nice pic, Roskilde. :)

BB confirms that Mary and Frederik were present at the wedding party of the American ambassador: Kronprinsesse Mary til bryllup hos Rufus Gifford | Billed Bladet

They arrived shortly before 19.00 and were seen dancing with each other. They were "not the last ones the leave the party".

The picture is not from the party.

so I guess the sources at Bt were not perfect since they did not mention Frederik ;)

Lovely to see that they can enjoy a night out with some level of privacy :flowers:

You know, there are always some pictures that just stays so strong in your memory.

That one picture of Frederik and Mary - first time parents - coming home - Frederik holds his newborn son, Mary puts her arm around Frederik and together - now as a little family - they walk home...
It is a wonderful and touching picture that says it all itself!

I've noticed many people on Facebook who writes: The best picture EVER.

Thanks Roskilde, wonderful gallery of the birthday boy. The photo of Christian sitting on his little chair at Isabella's Christening is just so cute and brings back what a well behaved little boy he was for someone so young. He appears to be such a loving, caring son and brother.
The photos of him with his parents in the Tivoli are so sweet,

Many thanks Roskilde, polyesco and Muhler for the photos, links and information that you continually share with us, your time and effort is very much appreciated.

Summary of article in Billed Bladet #42, 2015.
Written by Luise Marie Bekker.

As we now know the BB journalist, Henrik Salling was there too as a guest and he has told Luise Marie Bekker a bit about the party.

M&F have apparently developed a friendship with the ambassadorial couple, Rufus Gifford and Stephen DeVincent.
M&F arrived at 18.45 just before the 150 guest went to dinner.
M&F were later seen on the dance floor together. Some of their friends were there as well:
Birgitte and Jeppe Handwerk.
Elisabeth and Christian Buchwald.

At the party Mary wore the dress seen here: https://app.box.com/s/13kev2eecy7vpdbevq6neqpw6s6uswxj
But this time with her hair hanging loose.
