I get that they can be more involved than just a name on the letter head so to speak but I got the impression some posters were thinking these were Mary's own charities and that she runs then on a daily basis. They aren't hers, she supports them in whatever she can within the limits of her schedule.

Absolutely.
Mary was very hands on in regards to the Mary Foundation in the beginning. Very much shaping it to suit her abilities and her wishes as to what the purpose should be.
After a few years it had grown and needed a full time management, so Mary pulled out of the daily leadership.

^^^Only sensible to keep the program moving and growing.

Thanks. I think it's important to realize this, being a good "boss" means you know how to delegate and put the right people on the right job. Mary (or any other busy royal) coudn't have come this far without the daily assistance of advisors in various fields, a good secretary and a knowledgable lady-in-waiting, a skilfull hairdresser & make up artist, an excellent stylist... The Danish crown princely household seems to be a well running machine/company... However you wish to put it. Putting something like that together is really important & I find it fascinating to sometimes be able to catch a glimpse of the workings of that machine. :)

I agree 100%:flowers:!

The serious DR has today posted this good and interesting article - it gives a good view over how much work there is 'behind the scenes' and how involved they are in their things.

Mimi og Mary sammen mod mobning: Har uddannet 10.000 lærere og pædagoger | Kultur | DR

I think I'm posting it in "The general news thread..." - otherwise the admins are free to move it to the correct thread :flowers:

The article is brought because Frederik and Mary on Saturday live on DR1 in primetime will present 'The Crown Prince Couple's Prices 2015'.

In 2005, Mimi Jakobsen recieved Frederik and Mary's biggest award 'The Social Price' on behalf of 'Save the Children'. It has had a "huge impact," says Mimi Jakobsen who also tells about the cooperation with a Crown Princess who is involved down to the smallest detail and how "the formal You" is not a part of their collaboration.

- "The Crown Princess were sitting in a working group with us (in Save the Children) for one year and was involved in designing the campaign and the programme to 'Free for Bullying' with us. At the moment it has helped to educate 10,000 Danish teachers and educators and 1/3 of all Danish schools and 50 % of all Danish kindergartens uses that program," says Mimi Jakobsen.

- "She was totally involved and very active, and it's not something I say, just because it is the Crown Princess. There was asked questions, she came up with many ideas and was working hard. It was a very good experience, but also demanding, because she asked good questions. It was very positive and it has been very positive for the project that Mary was in charge of it."

- "You very quickly forget that she is the Crown Princess. You do not sit and say" Your Royal Highness ". I don't even think we said "You" (formal You). We were a working group."

** The article is longer, I have only translated a little part.

According to Daily Mail, it seems like Mary went to Milan (Milano) before going to New York: Crown Princess Mary shops for hats in Milan ahead of New York trip | Daily Mail Online

Nice little day trip.
This lady looks familiar...a long time friend of Frederik no? (and obviously Mary)

:previous: I believe that's Julie Mølsgaard who went to the upper secondary school with Frederik (and Joachim). She's also one of the people who've known Mary since the beginning.

:previous:thank you:flowers:
We often see her with Mary, and sometimes in the summer with the whole family.
Nice that friendships can last this long

Its a wonder anyone recognised them as they were casualy dressed.

:previous: Perhaps someone at the hotel or where ever Mary was staying, gave a photographer a tip?

:previous:

Lovely, what a handsome man Frederik is, thanks for sharing.

:previous: He definitely is. I can see people suggest the artist to send the drawing of Frederik to Mary. I think that's a good idea :)

It's a beautiful malt painting of F&M.

The week long autumn holiday started this weekend and usually M&F and their children embark to the hunting lodge in Trend in Jutland.
It's not unlikely they go there today after perhaps having celebrated Christian's birthday with a party for his friends Saturday.

Being located in the middle of a forest and other kind of woodland, and close to a fjord and marshland, they should with any luck see some wildlife.

It's very common to see various deer in the forest as there are well over one million of them living in DK:
http://navisen.dk/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/Deer.jpg
http://www.fugleognatur.dk/images/galleri/Rådyr-5-rå-1-buk.jpg

Even though the European Bison has been reintroduced to DK, they don't live near Trend:
http://multimedia.pol.dk/archive/00489/_D7A6578_15-10-2010_489127a.jpg

But there are quite a number of wild boars here, carefully fenced in. A necessity due to the export of pork.
http://www.denstoredanske.dk/@api/deki/files/90663/=dp-bd2-46.jpg

Trend is sufficiently remote and inviting for a number of eagles to be nesting in the general area. Predominantly what we call Havørne = Sea-eagles.
http://www.fugleognatur.dk/images/galleri/hø2f+n.jpg

With a bit of luck they can hear the distinct sound of the Great Horned Owl. They have returned too in recent years and in a couple of cases they have decimated the population of cats in a village. ***** may think she's the top-predator of the village - she isn't! One night...!
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/d2/Uhu-muc.jpg

The European Beaver is back as well. A number of them live near Trend where they are doing fine, thank you very much:
http://www.denstoredanske.dk/@api/deki/files/90276/=dp-bd1-145.jpg

You may not believe it but there are wild horses living in DK. In protected habitats on islands. But recent DNA tests have shown that somehow they have managed to breed with domestic, modern horses.
http://b.bimg.dk/node-images/291/6/2200x/6291998-hungary-wild-horses.jpg

The largest animal we have in DK is the Elk. They live almost exclusively on Zealand since most of them are refugees from Sweden, who swim across the sound. But most die from exhaustion or stress: http://acdn.byggeteknik.dk/article/_pics/82780_1_xl.jpg
Fortunately they are to be reintroduced in the wild here as well. Mainly in Jutland, where things are more quiet.

There have also been some talk about reintroducing the European Rhino as well as elephants, who will soon become as hairy as their European ancestors.

The biologist have now positively identified four she-wolves in DK, so it's estimated that there are at least ten adults and perhaps some cubs as well.
They roam all over Jutland, but so far haven't made it to the larger islands like Funen. Even though the sound is narrow the current is strong. But it's probably only a question before they, just like the red deer figure out: Why swim, when there are two nice bridges?
Here is a photo taken only a few days ago by an automatic camera. The terrain is very similar to what you will find around Trend: https://app.box.com/s/f3wv0vrqzg2xidg6y7unmp94dh1a2r78
There is plenty of food in DK for wolves, so when the Ravens circle you may find this: http://www.b.dk/sites/default/files-dk/node-images/462/7/7462366-saxo-photo.jpeg

And finally a couple of view of Trend:

You don't drive in by accident though: http://multimedia.pol.dk/archive/00639/Trend_skov_-_Kongel_639683z.jpg

Thank you, Muhler :flowers: Trend may be a fantastic place. Surrounded by nature and serenity. Ideal for a active outdoor family as the Crown Prince Family.

But before (and exactly as we talked about) Frederik, Mary and all four children yesterday visited Tivoli which is Halloween-decorated this week :pumpkin2:

----

Yesterday, Saturday the 10th October - F&M and children visited Tivoli in Copenhagen:

"CROWN PRINCE FAMILY VISIT "PHOENIX"
Among the 900 children and adults to today's show was a special family from Copenhagen with their four children: Christian, Isabella, Vincent and Josephine. Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary wished to experience 'Adventure Theatre's' family musical "Phoenix" with all their children and after the show they visited the young actors from The Adventure Theatre: Here, the two Princes and the two Princesses each received a "Phoenix-bird with gold feathers" as a magical memory of the performance which caused excitement in both children and adults in the Crown Prince family."

Interesting how there are two different names for an animal known as a "moose" in North America. The term "elk" is used for a very large member of the deer family that travels in herds. I had the pleasure of seeing two moose this summer at Alaska's Denali National Park.

:previous: They are pretty impressive!

They are a common sight in Sweden and quite a risk on the high ways there. Even a Volvo (build like a main battle tank... and with a similar acceleration) has problems surviving a collision with such a big animal.

The Danish name for a moose/elk is "elg" so homemade animals like these are inevitably named Helga and Helge.

- Yes, the winters are long here in DK...:p

The mods may wish to place this elsewhere: Mary festede med nygift ambassadør - Royale | www.bt.dk

The American ambassador to DK, Rufus Gifford, got married Saturday to his partner of many years, Stephen DeVincent. The marriage took place in Copenhagen and they invited a couple of hundred of their friends over to celebrate.
But as the ambassador is the US representative, and is seen frequently in the Copenhagen gay scene there were a number of Danish representatives to the party afterwards that lasted well into the night to Sunday.

BT writes that Mary took part in the party and that pictures of her at the party a have surfaced. BT does not show these pictures - you know, the laws of privacy and giving permissions and all that - but evidently they can be found on the Net somewhere, so happy hunting.

Here is a gallery from the wedding: http://www.bt.dk/danmark/se-billederne-saa-fik-rufus-gifford-sin-stephen#slide-1
And no, it's not the Royal Lifeguard, it's the Tivoli Guard.

- No sure about the American laws, so is an otherwise legal gay marriage performed abroad, valid in USA? That is, in the states that do not allow gay marriages.

Thanks Muhler,

(Frederik and) Mary may have taken to the wedding in the evening after their visit in Tivoli with their children during the day.

BT base their article on one Twitter photo where you can see a glimpse of what look like Mary in the background, so Frederik very likely has attend the wedding too. We have before seen that Frederik and Mary have spend private time with our US Ambassador Rufus.

I remember that Christian was about to "reveales" a private family excursion during an official event in the beginning of the year. F&M and Christian and Isabella was attend "Find Your Way Day" and the press were interviewing the family. The press asked how the family were going to spend their Easter holiday after the event, and Christian said "Well, we are actually going on Easter hunt with the US Ambassador..." before Frederik, with a smile, stopped him before he told to much of their private plans :p

By the way, an extremely likeable and pleasant man, the American Ambassador, Rufus. I followed him in a program on DR2.

The autumn holidays has started and we can see the Crown Prince family has enjoyed their first weekend out and about.

Yesterday, F&M and all four children went to the family-theater in Tivoli, and today Frederik and Christian were spotted having a boys-day out to a football match in Parken with grandpa Henrik and cousins Nikolaj and Felix:

How long does the autumn holiday break last? My children's school district is taking Mon. and Tues. as a pupil free long weekend. The faculty/staff will be in training on those days. Our next long weekend will be at the end of November for Thanksgiving with our district taking Wed.-Fri. off.

:previous:
A week. Week 42 has been the autumn holiday for many, many years. It used to be called the Potato Holiday back when DK was predominantly an agricultural society.
Back then children were needed for the potato harvest, so they were kept home from school anyway by their parents, so a virtue was made out of necessity and it became an annual school holiday.

We don't celebrate Thanksgiving, for obvious reasons of course, so the next school holiday is the Christmas holiday.

The United States Supreme Court ruled that same-sex couple marriages are legal and all states are required to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples.

The North American elk and moose are two different animals and there is no confusion there about them. The confusion is that in some parts of Europe the moose is called elk. Perhaps it comes from moose being called elg in Danish and älg in Swedish.

Muhler, I am surprised they won't publish the pictures of Mary at the wedding. There have been pictures of Mary attending weddings and parties in the past. Is this a new law?
