Here is a video from BT, where she teary eyed is presenting the Cancer Foundation award to the leader of the Kindergarten: Rørt kronprinsesse overrækker kræftpris | www.bt.dk

We also see a bit from the movie, which affected Mary. She wasn't quite her ususal composed self.

Indeed, she seemed quite affected. You can even hear it on her voice. As she said herself, the movie which had been shown just before she went on stage was quite tough.

Tonight, Mary has opened the official opening of the exhibition at Orddrupgaard.

IIRC, I think it's Frederik who used to open this annual exhibition? But this year he is in Sochi so his wife has taken over for him :)

Thanks, Roskilde. :flowers:

And again accompanied by an adjutant. She's inching closer and closer to being her majesty - and looking the part as well.

Roskilde, polyesco, iceflower and Muhler, thank you for the posts and photos.

Mary has been very busy these past twelve months with overseas trade and humanitarian trips and engagements in Denmark too.

I know she has lots of support from staff but it still must be very tiring sometimes if you crave some "down time".

Three hours ago, Mary arrived to Birkerød Gymnasium (High School). Here she hold a speak to the opening ceremony of Birkerød High School's Model United Nations Conference, called BIGMUN.

Here's the first pictures...

It's a Danish school in Denmark, and everybody around presumably speaks and understands Danish, the official language of the country.

Why isn't she speaking Danish?

Why isn't she speaking Danish?

The article in Billed Bladet tells why the speech is in English.

There were not only Danish students involved. Students from all over attended including some from Australia, well at least I saw the Australian flag in one of the photos.

This is the first paragraph from the article.

""Princess Mary held Wednesday speech at the opening ceremony of Birkeroed High School Model United Nations Conference - a conference where young people from different countries practicing collaboration on complex global issues in the same way as is done in the United Nations"

:previous: You understand Danish excellent, Marfre.

Yes, the young students were guests from countries such as Germany, the Netherlands, Turkey, Spain and the U.S., so I guess they appreciated that Mary held her speech in English and not in Danish. Otherwise, I'm afraid they would have looked something like :blink::confused:

Would anyone have the BB article? I didn't find it online; the link in the posts above doesn't give much information. It just says the students of the high school were there. - Thanks!

Found it, marfre! Thank you for trying, though. :flowers: - Yes, it makes perfect sense to speak English if it was international!

Yes, the whole purpose of this is to have a "simulated UN summit", hence the participants from foreign high-schools.
The topics are very much in line with Mary's work. I.e. AIDS, capital punishment, abortion, preventions, gender discrimination and so on.
You can easily tell the foreign students from the Danish. The foreign students are neatly dressed...

(Is it just me or do others think it's slightly odd to have an obituary placed right next to this photoseries)?

news from billedebladet with video.. she is a great speaker, very engaged and confident to listen to.. just the way she use her hands to explain..
this morning i went to lecture at my university and the speaker barely looked up from his paper or used his hands to give his speech just some little life.. i could have fell to sleep:D

Not to mention that Mary's speech was more than fifteen minutes long. It requires you knows your material and stuff and have practiced the speech through again and again. I'm always impressed by people (royals as non-royals) who can hold such long speeches - maybe because I couldn't even say a few words to my children's christenings without having to mess them up. :p

I think Mary has a very pleasant voice. I've always liked it. - I think she spoke well, and her manner was very pleasant.

The dress she wore; it would be lovely on a summer's day, being light and airy, but I find it too flimsy for a cold February day. The long boots look really good.

:previous: Cold February day? It's been 8 degrees C this week! - Almost warm enough for T-shirts.
We've had exactly three weeks of winter this year. (Including two minor blizzards). - Not that I'm complaining.

The larks (the horny b*rst*rds) are chirping away as if they were paid for it.
It's been a weird, but great winter this year! The heating bill will not be a horror story this year at least.

That's fair enough, Muhler! I'm just assuming February is a cold time in Denmark, but have heard it's been exceptionally warm this European winter.

I would still prefer that dress in the summer, and something not so light to combine with the jacket and the boots. She's worn beautiful outfits earlier during the winter. - I just would prefer that dress with happy sandals or similar, and not winter boots. - Just me! :)

:previous: It wasn't a scolding. Merely a baffled statement of how unusual a winter we have had this year.
February usually is cold and miserable and depressing...
