That's cool!!!!! Congrats CP Mary!

Thanks for the link. That's a pretty good list I agree with most of it. Anyway congratulations Mary. :)

Congratulations to Crown Princess Mary!!

She has earned the respect and trust that she deserves from the people who have only known her through these span of time. I think all her efforts and hardwork as an individual and as a royal have paid off because she is reaping positive feedbacks from people of different walks in the society.

I think she is very happy now to learn about that because it is something great for her! But the challenge still remains there and it will still increase as time goes by. That challenge is to maintain the affection and trust that people have for her!

Congratulations to CP Mary who is doing a great job since she became Crown Princess.

Thanks for the pictures. In the first photo she looks pensive.."Should I buy it or not?":p

Maybe she was shopping for him. Picking up a quicky birthday present. Must be nice to have jets and boats and all that at your lesure to hop on over to another country to shop. What a life.:)

The drf and Mary does not have private jets or boats or things like that. They just, just like us, have to take plain normal commercial airlines, when they want to travel around privately. Copenhagen to London is just 1.50 Hours. No big deal:)

Ooops, my mistake, I thought I saw her getting onto a private jet with Christian one time. Thanks for clearing it up.:)

The Drf do not have a private jet, but on official visits abroard they might sometimes fly on one of the militarys planes, which are at those occations are called the Royal air force:) News Flash! I have read often on this board that the Drf is wealthy. They are not!! They have a (very)minor private fortune. The rest is what they get from the state:)

nordic imelda?:D that is pretty funny. I'm sure its not true but whoever invited the nickname has a good sense of humor. the australian media is taking after their fleet street colleagues by inventing nicknames for celebrities.

i was just reading that article in the herald sun (one of the daily newspapers that i and many australians read), i was quite suprised, the article in the herald sun made mary out to be some kind of gold-digger/hungry shoe woman, (most people will hopefully understnd the hungry shoe woman comment because of the pic of mary with her eyes wide open, straing at a models shoe (PS: I like Mary, I'm not bad mouthing her, in a way. i'm just commenting on what other people have commented before me. I like mary). one bit of the article said that queen margarethe...(extract from 28th May Sunday Herald Sun)
..."While Queen Margarethe is busy making budget cuts, her daughter-in-law reportedly refuses to rein in her spending."

Please, I know about Imelda Marcos and Mary is nowhere near her extravagance! When I lived in the Philippines, I even saw Imelda Marcos' shoe collection as a child and it was extensive. Plus, if you search the internet, you'll find pictures of her jewelry collection which will make you wonder where that type of money came from seeing that at that time, the country was poverty-stricken.

Anyway, the extra expense probably came from having a new baby in the family! The allowance now supported three members, not just two, unless Prince Christian has his own spending allowance, which I doubt. Plus, I don't know if the government made that budget before or after Mary became pregnant.

Is'nt it just rubbish! The Herald Sun should be ashamed of itself, really. Then again, It is a Murdoch owned enterprise so nothing surprises me, especially when it comes to royals

She look annoyed about something. Seems like she is walking away from the LIW ...... I wander what the LIW said

The comparison between Mary and Imelda was symbolic. Perhaps a good time for her to take the pulse of the Danish people's opinion of her. A honeymoon will at some point always end and a new phase start.

This comparison was made by EB-a yellow tabloid and not by the Danish people. The Australian media just copied directly form EB.

And I agree with you what you said. Imelda Marcos and her husband, Marcos, the President of Philippines (1965-1986) are both dictators and has stashed away billions of money and gold from the poverty driven country Philippines in some foreign banks which up to now some are still untraceable. Their private properties are immense and their jewellery collections will probably put some Royal Houses to shame.

To compare Mary with Imelda is a joke alright but not amusing.

I do hope you are not assuming grevinnan, that the Danish populous voice there respective opinion's through cheap gossip mags...surely not, my mistake :)

I, personally, dont believe there was anything symbolic about the comparison whatsoever...just some poorly paid jurno who has used Marcos as an example, because of her fashion/money hungry ways, which, when bringing the Crown Princess into the equation makes people (and many gullible indaviduals at that) think that Mary is headed down the same road .

That's not journalism, its compost!

I agree, i don't get that impression when I see that pic because it simply is not evident in the photo.

The Mary-Imelda Marcos story.
This is how it was reported in Australia in News Corp. papers:

"The annual report into the finances of the Danish Royals showed she and Crown Prince Frederik were splurging the equivalent of A$2500 a day on items such as clothes, shoes and furniture."

The annual report showed no such thing. The annual report states the couple spent A$933,000 on "private expenses" last year.

The reporters have then divided this amount by 365 to come up with A$2500 a day. From this they have deduced it was spent on clothes, shoes and furniture. Therefore Mary is "the new Imelda Marcos".

Journalists in Australia need to have a journalism qualification. Judging by the rubbish contained in this particular story, our journalism schools teach the London tabloid syllabus.

even if it is a tabloid making the comparisions, when you look at pictures of mary at events she always wears the best. if i was a tax paying dane, i dont know how i would feel about her spending too much (if she is)

The proof with a little twist we can make numbers say anything we want.
I agree that one can make any set of numbers or facts intend whatever one wants with the turn of a phrase. Sometimes it only takes one word changed in a sentence to have the opposite meaning.

Even though journalists and media sources are supposed to be objective, they clearly aren't. Within a country you know which papers are pro-monarchy and which are not. And the same topic can be view different ways depending on your slant. I learned this one year in journalism school during an election year. One party was saying that if elected they would spend more tax dollars on health care. So the local paper which supported this party had headlines on the paper the next day about how this party cared about the health care of Canadian citizens, showing them in a very positive light. Another paper which didn't support this party also had a headline about this party's policy on healthcare the next day -- but about how they didn't invest enough in it now so why continue to let them rule.

The two stories used virtually the same quotes and statistics, but two very different spins on the healthcare platform.

For example, if Mary spends $X amount on shoes and Imedla Marcos spent a similar amount, a republican-supporting paper could twist it to say (which they do in this case) that Mary's spending habits are out of control. But by the same token, a monarchy-supporting paper could use that same figure, $X, and juxtapose it with the amount that another Crown Princess spends and say that Mary spends roughly the same amount and say that the amount was reasonable. Or if one Crown Princess spent more money than Mary, then that same paper could say, that Mary is being thrifty by spending less than the other CP.

It's all still the same amount figure, but very different outcomes and perspectives.

Something else the press seem to overlook in my opinion, is that Mary is still really a "bride" married to a Crown Prince, and must be outfitted for every occasion that this position requires.
Mary isn't always wearing new clothes - she constantly recycles all her outfits - even those from before her engagement.
Any excuse to imply criticism is seized upon to help sell their newspapers.
