I know that Frederik is fluent in French and I would imagine that since Christian's grandfather is French, both he and Mary would make a point of having the kids be fluent in it as well. So I don't know if they would speak "stilted" French. Frederik's French that I've heard is rather good for someone who was not born in France or didn't grow up with French as their mother tongue.

I think French is a required language for european royalty. I once heard thats the language they communicate in with each other. There are a certain language that royals must know/speak & i dont think Mary is going to stop her children from learning it.

I believe nowadays most royals converse with each other in English, not French. Back in the 18th and 19th centuries, French was the "universal" royal language, as most royal courts required it. English is the "lingua franca" of royalty now, because most European countries teach it in school and most people choose to learn it anyway.

It is so strange that the little princess will be going out in public for her first official apperance without a name.

Also, I don't know if it is still so, but french used to be the "Lingue Diplomatique" or the language of diplomacy, that all countires could converse in.
