They have a villa in Bormes (not Borne;) ) Les Mimosas that's right. I was also surprised to see that they were also in Antibes.

I ignore if they have a villa in Antibes too.;)

Is Marie Astrid now known as HI&RH Archduchess Marie Astrid of Austria? Or is she still known as HRH Princess Marie Astrid of Luxembourg?

I think the wives inherit the female versions of the title of their husband... ^___^

For all of you interesting in the royal house of Austria, I have found this interesting link of the history of the Emperors of Austria:http://www.newgotha.org/part1/ausgen.htm

Here is the most interesting passage considering Princess Marie Astrid's husband Archduke Carl-Christian of Austria:

Archduke Carl Christian Maria Anna Rudolph Anton Markus d'Aviano, b at Château de Beloeil 26 Aug 1954, admission into Belgian nobility with title of Prince of Habsburg-Lorraine by Belgian Royal Decree for himself and his descendants with the qualification of Serene Highness, 19 Aug 1983; Kt Order of the Golden Fleece, Kt Order of Lion of Nassau, Bank Dir; m at Luxemburg 6 Feb 1982, Princess Marie Astrid (b at Château Betzdorf 17 Feb 1954), dau of Jean, Grand Duke of Luxemburg and Princess Josephine Charlotte of Belgium, and has issue. (2 Chemin des Cabris, 1254 Jussy, Switzerland).
(1). Archduchess Marie Christine Anne Astrid Zita Charlotte, b at Brussels 31 Jul 1983.
(2). Archduke Imre Emmanuel Simeon Jean Carl Marcus d'Aviano, b at Geneva 8 Dec 1985.

House Habsburg-Lothringen

I have also found an interesting link about Habsburg-Lothringen (remember Carl-Christian's title is also of Habsburg-Lothringen;) ):
http://www.hapsburg.com/about.htm

I have copy-pasted from the site the most interesting passage of where the name Habsburg comes from:) :

HAPSBURG NOMENCLATURE

Then name Hapsburg has many variations: Hapsburgh, Habsburg, Habisburch etc. Since the family has been in existence for half a millenium such variations in spelling are expected (as language evolves and changes through time and geography). Origination from a castle named 'Habichtsburg' built by Bishop Wener of Strasbourg (which is located on the Aar river in present day Switzerland), in 1020 C.E., the name translated from medieval German literally means 'Hawk's Castle.'

Today, the Austrian descendants, and most of the academic community, use the 'Habsburg' spelling. I've opted for the 'Hapsburg' variation, one that was in vogue pre-1980 when much of the focus was on the Spanish branch of the family, for practical reasons, namely that the domain hapsburg was available and habsburg was not. For the purposes of this project the actual spelling of the name is secondary in importance and should not hinder the reader's understanding of the facts or arguments

Excellent, thank you drimal! :) That's interesting that Carl Christian and his descendants are styled Serene Highnesses, rather than Imperial&Royal Highnesses...

hmmm, that is interesting. then why are astrid of belgium's kids styled imperial and royal highnesses???? odd?

Hmm... the mystery deepens - I had a look in my Almanach de Gotha and it says that members of the imperial family are styled Imperial&Royal Highnesses... Could Carl Christian have the authority to adopt a different style, if he felt it was more appropriate?

Wait - I had another look at drimal's post and I realised it says Carl Christian was admitted into the Belgian nobility with the title Prince of Habsburg-Lorraine and the qualification of HSH. So, presumably this was allowed because of Luxembourg's (and I guess, Austria's) links with Belgium. I wonder why he adopted this style, when one would consider HI&RH to be superior to HSH.

Princess Marie Astrid and Archduke Carl-Christian of Austria at the funeral

Princess Marie Astrid was in Fischbach for several weeks to look for her very sick mother Josephine-Charlotte and help her in the difficult last weeks of her live!
By the way she had studied for nurse.

That explains why I thought Marie-Astrid looked so exhausted at the funeral. She looked much better in the pictures of the remembrance mass for Josephine-Charlotte yesterday, like she had finally gotten some rest.

Here are the pics BMC was talking about!

Princess Marie Astrid, husband Archduke Carl Christian of Austria, Princess Margaretha and husband Prince Nikolaus of Liechtenstein, such as Prince Guillaume and Princess Sibilla and Prince Jean were present.

2. an interesting report from Corbis:

January 28, 2004 Geneva, Switzerland

EXCLUSIF

Princess Marie-Astrid will be celebrating her 50th birthday in Geneva on February 17 with husband, Christian (Archduke of Austria) who she married on February 6, 1982 and their five children. Her eldest daughter, Marie-Christine (born on July 31, 1983) is a student of economic sciences; her son Imre (born on December 8, 1985) is still at school like her other children, Christophe (born February 2, 1988) and Gabriella (born March 26, 1994). Marie-Christine, the Princess’s eldest daughter, took a year out after her final school exams to visit Christian’s sister, Alexandra, who lives in Chile and looks after the children of prisoners. She also assisted her father in a medical dispensary on the island of Chileo, the largest island in South America.

Marie-Astrid is closely involved with organisations for abandoned children, in particular the association “Tramontane” in Brussels. She is very close to her parents and spent a lot of her free time with her mother, the Grand Duchess Josephine Charlotte of Luxembourg, during her serious illness and likewise with her brothers and sisters who she catches up with either abroad or in Geneva. Her husband, Christian is delighted that Marie-Astrid’s grandfather, the Emperor Charles (who died at the age of 35 in exile on the island of Madeira in 1922) is to be beatified. The decree of beatification was signed by Pope John Paul II on December 20, 2003 in a ceremony attended by the Emperor’s four sons – Archduke Otto (91), Felix (87), Charles-Louis (85) and Rodolphe (83). Christian, who is the director of a finance company, has strongly supported his father, Charles Louis and Felix, his uncle, in their negotiations with the Austrian authorities towards the restitution of personal family property that were returned to them in 1935, then confiscated by the Nazis in 1938 who disapproved of the Hapsburg link. Christian has also been assisted by Bill Clinton’s former secretary, Stewart Eizenstat, who has been concentrating on the injustices meted out during the Nazi era. The property in question includes 25,000 hectares of forest, four houses in Vienna and the Laxenburg Palace just outside Vienna. If and when the properties in question are returned to the family, they will be shared out among 150 members of the Hapsburgs.

Portrait of Princess Marie-Astrid of Luxembourg who is due to celebrate her 50th birthday on February 17, 2004.

Here is a link to the page where I found this interesting report and beautiful pictures of February 2004: http://pro.corbis.com/search/searchFrame.asp?typ=set&isuid={bcbc2850-e2ac-4caa-95c3-c4c77ad5fb9f}}

Where do Marie-Astrid and her family live and what do she and her husband do? They don't seem to perform very many royal duties or any at all, so they aren't very active royals. Does she have a job?
