given the attacks in barcelona today, i hope felipe and letizia come back from their holiday to be with the country during this difficult time. my guess is that they are still on holiday at this time. any official word on whether they will they come back to be at the funerals? they are usually present at terrorism victims funerals.

Perhaps Letizia is still with her daughters on holidays :previous:

The Kings will visit tomorrow morning in different hospitals for the wounded by the attack yesterday in Barcelona.

It seems Letizia can't make it to today's minute of silence (which starts in a short while) but can make it to tomorrow's hospital visits? Curious.

I imagine many will be disappointed.

I'd imagine given the scale of attacks and the many victims people will have more on their minds than the absence of queen Letizia today. The King will be in Barcelona today and both the king and queen tomorrow.

Just watched the King and Spanish Prime Minister in Barcelona getting bursts of applause from the crowds.

The act today is quite institutional (with the heads of state and government, all political forces, the regional government of Catalonia...) I'm sure nobody would have complained if Letizia were there, but it's quite enough with the King, really. I was sure they would show up later today for a visit to the hospital. That will be finally tomorrow, but you also have to keep in mind the situation is still delicate in Barcelona, with several police operations going on right now and looking for the van's driver, who might be in the city or surroundings. The visits are necessary but can wait for now, and I'm pretty sure the authorities have scheduled it when it's the best timing. And at this point there is little more that F&L can do.

Plus, Felipe might have flied back to Spain this very night-morning to make it to the act, it's quite possible that Letizia and the girls are flying later today on a regular fly - you know Felipe and Leonor are not supposed to go on the same plane, and we don't even know where they were, maybe the flight takes long. The important thing is that the Head of State is going to be present in an act that means unity together with all the maximum authorities in Spain and Catalonia.

I can't say I will be surprised if somebody around here still find reasons to be disappointed :whistling:
But I'm not. I don't see anything to blame in the way they have handled the situation. It has been in every moment the right thing to do. As with every other authority or administration, btw. Everything is being well handled and I think people in general is calmer today than yesterday.

I think it's correct how they do it, Felipe had to be there first hand, Letizia tomorrow is fine. It was always clear that they have to and will interrupt their holidays and get there, sooner or later. It happened before with the plane crash when Letizia just had her nose operation.

i think letizia's presence today would have been welcome given the severity of what happened, but i am happy that both felipe and letizia will in some form be present in spain during the conmemorations and the funerals.

I think Queen Letizia was probably not present for security reasons. But he will be present tomorrow in a visit that the Kings of Spain will make to the victims in the hospitals.

King Felipe has spoken to the press after the visit.
This afternoon they will be at Las Ramblas and tomorrow at the Mass in Sagrada Familia.

would be a nice touch for the old Kings to interrupt their vacation as well.

Funny this video, where one injured lady sleeps in her bed while the King & Queen visited their room. What may be her reaction, when awaiking and realising what she has missed during her sleep.....

Maybe she is just happy that she was able to sleep after the nightmare she went through and is still alive and couldn't care less about who came visiting with the press in tow.

Just watching the king and queen on a walkabout in Barcelona on the news.
