Hola talks about '2 more tourists' as if they are completely interchangeable with anyone else. However, I know very few people who wear a suit when visiting a place as tourists...

Maybe something was lost in translation but I thought they were at Mass in Seville, might explain the suit?

Not his mother, but the XIII Duchess of Alba that Goya painted two centuries ago.

The Duke of Alba announced today that starting in September part of the Palace of Liria in Madrid will be open for visits. Group visits of 20 people, which will last about 65 minutes and at a price of 14 €.

Thank goodness so many priceless pieces of art from the Liria Plaace were in storage during the Spanish Civil War and are thus preserved following the 1936 burning of the palace.

Most of those enobled by Franco are probably now dead or on the way out and some of those titles are into 2nd/3rd generations,I fear the monarchy will be next.

I don't think the monarchy is in danger. But I also think that Sanchez shouldn't touch Franco's titles, because it's been a long time. It's a subject they shouldn't touch.

Wow. I wonder how the people feel about this?! To have a title for so long and then have it removed. Do those with a title get any monies from the government yearly, or is it a title in name only? Are the titles passed down through the generations? Thanks

They receive nothing from the government. These are just titles that people receive by family tradition. Or they receive from the King for some reason. There are titles that are inherited by descendants, but there are also titles that are not transferable and are only from the person who received it.

Most if not all of those titles are hereditary ones :previous:

4 hereditary Dukedoms to the best of my knowledge were created by Franco.

Duke de Mola created 1948
Duke of Primo de Rivera created 1948
Duke of Santo Buono created 1958
Duke de Carrero Blanco created 1973

I also don't think there is still a need to uncover these things as it will only enrage the public. Likewise, I don't think this will put the Spanish monarchy in a bad light.

It is quite short-sighted to start a war with the past.

Indeed. I find it unnecessary too. The Francisco Franco National Foundation which is currently headed by Don Luis Alfonso Marco de Borbón y Martínez-Bordiú (great-grandson of both Alfonso XIII of Spain and Francisco Franco y Bahamonde, Head of State of Spain) has already issued a statement condemning this government’s proposed bill.
