The king Juan Carlos visits orthodox monasteries in the north of Russia 25/08/2006 Moscow. (EFE) .-The king Juan Carlos, who is in visit deprived to Russia, will know today several orthodox monasteries in Vologda's region, to approximately 500 kilometres to the north of Moscow, as has reported the service of press of the local government. The monarch, who met this Thursday the Russian president, Vladímir Putin, in the resort of Sochi, located in the Black sea, will visit the monasteries of Kirilo-Beloziorski and Ferapont, according to the Russian agency Interfax. The monastery Kirilo-Beloziorski, founded in 1397, was visited in his time by Iván Terrible and Peter the Great; while that of Ferapont, founded in 1398 and closed by the Bolsheviks in 1924, is considered to be one of the summits of the religious architecture in the north of Russia. The king of Spain had visited Russia for last time in June of last year, occasion in the one that also supported an informal meeting with Putin. |

It's very impressive to me that HM is meeting with world leaders at the highese levels. Juan Carlos is certainly not a "lazy" or figurehead king but an active and involved monarch.
