Wasn't that haircomb severely changed? They had exchanged the central diamond for an emerald and cut of parts of the jewel at both sides. I can't imagine that this is the old french haircomb.

At the Württemberg-Wied pre-wedding the Princess wore a tiara with three opaque green stones. The tiara outline seems identical to me, so I think it might be that tiara.

Probably those bigger tiaras cause headache and Princess maybe wanted to fit into White tie and avoid headache by using smaller tiara.
You do have a point about a bigger tiara and possible headaches.

I can imagine that Prince and Princess Michael were there because of Prince Michael's interest in Russia, as I noticed that there were a couple of Russian guests at Leka and Elia's wedding too. Therefore they were most likely there for personal reasons rather than official reasons, because, like you said, this is a non-reigning wedding.

although like i said before, i did not think much of either one of elia's wedding dresses, i have to say that the first dress actually improved a bit when i saw elia 'repeating it' for the wedding banquet later on in the day with her hair down. i don't know what it was exactly that made the difference (the hairdo, the lack of veil... or possibly the fact that the re were fewer pictures :) ) but i think it looked a lot better at this second appearance than it did in the actual ceremony. the silhouette reminded me slightly of kate's wedding dress, with the tight waistline, petite bodice and the large skirt. needless to say however, i very much preferred kate's: the fact that kate's was made by a world-renowned fashion designer, as opposed to one having a penchant for showing too much skin off with her models probably has something to do with that.

Prince Leka was living in Britain while attending Royal Academy in Sandhurst, so maybe during this time he became acquainted with some British royals and nobles (Lady Victoria Hervey).

An article from Royal Musings on the wedding of Crown Prince Leka and Crown Princess Elia:

Royal Musings: The wedding of Prince Leka and Princess Elia of Albania

It includes many photographs from the different events that took place throughout the day.

Leka's ancestor Zog claimed the Albanian throne based his blood relationship to Skanderbeg. According to wikipedia, other royal families connected to Skanderbeg are Belgium, Luxembourg, Austria-Hungary, Prussia, Serbia, and some members of the British royal family which seem to be Princess Michael and her descendants. In one of the posted clips on this thread Prince Michael brings up Princess Michael being related to the Albanian royals via Skanderbeg. So yes the countries listed above were all represented, unlike other royal families, possibly due to being distant relatives of the Albanian royals. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skanderbeg

Well, Geraldine and Marianne Szapary were 5th cousins, which means that Prince Leka and Princess Michael of Kent are 6th cousins once removed.

The closest link is that both of them are descendants of Count Christian Anton von Waldstein-Wartenberg (1743-1791) and Countess Anna Maria von Ulfeldt (1747-1791), descendant of the Kings of Denmark.

Prince Michael is also related to Prince Leka, both being descendants of Prince Ferdinand August Leopold von Lobkowicz (1655-1715).

Fascinating.

More importantly, it is a national symbol of Albania: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arms_of_Skanderbeg

There is an interesting link between Queen Geraldine's family and Princess Michael's family which might explain this.

Princess Michael's first stepmother Margherita was firstly married to Count Hans-Christoph von Seherr-Thoss.

This Count Hans-Christoph von Seher-Thoss was first cousin of Queen Geraldine's father.

So, maybe those complicated family ties might explain closer relations between them.

Plus both Geraldine and Michael are partly of Hungarian descent. Geraldine was Hungarian on her father's side and Michael on her mother's.
