And in addition, it highlights the romanticism of places we typically tend to underrate , such as Germany--bt that country has a ton of blue bloods still, and, when it comes to castles, that country really takes the cake! They have the best, oldest, most romantic castles in my opinion! France and Britain, with all due respect, can't hold a candle to Germany when it comes to castles! That in combination with traditional weddings, ah! Nothing beats that, now does it!
Agreed :), and many thanks to Elsa for giving us the opportunity to indulge ourselves with the many pics of members of the old Holy Roman Empire families.
The schloss in Elsa's post #28, 05-20-2006, Schloss Weyerburg, is the Austrian seat of the Schönborn-Buchheim family.

True without Elsa we would all miss out on the fun! Thank you Elsa for the hard work!

And yes, Austria also has incredible castles!

What I also like about this thread is that these smaller noble wedding festivities are as much about reuniting families as they are about the bride and groom. At least, that's my impression.
There's a more intimate character to these weddings than your typical big event for, say, a crown prince of Norway or the Netherlands or Spain.
These princes had no choice but inviting a myriad of political figures to their respective weddings.

I think it's because of this that I often end up disappointed by the sort of political grandeur of the bigger royal weddings. Because the main protagonists, the bride and groom, often seem more like pawns in a play.
For example I couldn't help but think that the Netherlands' Willem Alexander looked shy and uncomfortable on his wedding day, and I don't blame him! An intimate family wedding like most couples on this thread I think would've suited him much better! (although of course Maxima at least did her best to seem delighted by all the fuss on 2-2-02!)

Why was Princess Sumaya of Jordan present? What is the special link between this german nobility and the jordanian royal family?

The former Crown Prince of Jordan (the late King Hussein's brother) developed very close ties to the royal families, reigning and deposed, of Europe during his long period as crown prince.

I thank you, Elsa, for creating this space for other weddings. It's nice for not-so-much-talked-about weddings, like the ones I'm trying :D to post today.

And, I agree, Maria was beautiful, perfect! and her brother Christian - what can I say he was gorgeous  .

Carlos Fitz-James Stuart, Duke of Huéscar, with Matilde de Solis-Beaumont y Martínez

18th June 1988

Wedding of Carlos Fitz-James Stuart, Duke of Huéscar, with Matilde de Solis-Beaumont y Martínez de Campos, daughter of Marquis de la Motilla

18th June 1988, the day Duchess Alba fulfilled her dream to see her eldest son married in Seville at the main Altar of the Cathedral.

The bride was 23 years old and the groom 40.

Matilde was the third bride of the Century to be allowed to wed at the main Altar. The first one was Doña Esperanza de Borbón and the second was her mother-in-law Duchess of Alba.

The wedding was attended by 1500 guests.

Matilde dressed a gown designed by Cerezal, in silk and organza, in pure lines and train of 5 metres. The people immediately classified her gown as the 8 degrees' gown, because the train occupied the 8 degrees that took to the altar.

Matilde wore the Russian Tiara and Duke of Huéscar dressed the outfit of “Real Maestranza”.

The wedding was officiated by Opus Dei Priest and brother of the bride, Manuel de Solís.

As a curiosity, at the wedding banquet were served only cold dishes due to the amount of guests and because cooking for so may people would add some danger to the ancient kitchen of the House-Palace of Marquis de la Motilla.

Los Dukes de Huéscar had 2 sons: Fernando and Carlos.

They were divorced in the end of the century. Matilde has remarried and Carlos has a relation with Alicia Koplowitz.

While browsing through an old Town & Country (Feb 2005)magazine, I found the story of how Max proposed to Vanessa.

----

Vanessa von Bismarck, pr executive:

He and I had been talking marriage for a while, and I kept saying that he needed to have a ring. Nothing special, but he had to show he had thought about it. Months went by; no ring. In February last year, I noticed he was frantically looking for something. Turned out he had lost my ring. We looked everywhere; a hypnotist was consulted, and a psychic- to no avail. After two months, his mother found it. Very relieved, he decided to plan a trip for us to Harbour Island. Once there, he had the genius idea to propose underwater, a plan capsized by the slight panic attack I had when I was told that I had to dive through a tunnel (not knowing he had the ring on the string of his bathing suit). Finally he proposed on the balcony of our hotel room: anything at that point to hand over the ring.
