Nicholas de Roumanie Medforth-Mills and Alina Maria Binder - September 30th, 2018

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Balcony appearance for two Commoners . Strange !
I find it strange too! My humble impression is that Nicolae aims to give an official and royal flavour to his wedding and to his life. Could this be what's upsetting for the royal family?

I would find it strange if they would ignore well wishers. And a balcony appearance is a practical way to greet a crowd of people. Of course we will have to wait and see if there are any, but it seems that they are expecting public interst.

A mod. note:

The relationship between Nicholas and his aunt can be discussed in this thread:

"The boy, with whom King Mihai came after 45 years of exile to legitimize the future of the monarchy in Romania, grew. For several years he has been living with us, involved in valuable projects that open other horizons, conquering the hearts of Romanians, reviving hope. On September 30, in Sinaia, His Royal Highness Prince Nicolae of Romania and his chosen Alina Maria will receive the mystery of the holy wedding in the Church of St. Elias. We will be with them, all who believe and fight for Royal Romania, all who love and respect the memory of King Mihai and Queen Ana! The grandparents' spirits will accompany the bridegroom with joy at the altar. After 70 years, in Sinaia, a real royal wedding! Nothing will shade the feast of the Romanian Crown! So help us God!"

The grandparents' spirit? The same grandparents whom kicked Nicholas out of the self-regulated Royal House, out of the proposed succession and whom took away the royal style and title? That Marilena Rotaru has a selective memory was known, but that it is this selective, wow...

Nicolae has published the program of the religious wedding at his website

From the program we see among other things:

Sunday 30th September
13.30 The guests start to arrive
14.20 The Bride and Groom arrive
14.30 Religious service
15.30 The Bride and Groom exit the church
16.00 The Bride and Groom arrive to the Casino
16.30 The Bride and Groom appear at the balcony
18.00 Reception
The press will have access in the church courtyard and in front of the Casino

Great! We will even experience a balcony appearance!

Yes, the same family that rather belongs in a kindergarten than in a castle....:whistling:

Exactly, and she conveniently forgets that he is no longer a prince. He only was a prince for 5 years and 4 months (and not for the other 28 years and 1 1/2 months of his life) if we accept his grandfather's actions in entitling Nicholas, we should also accept his removal.

What type of jewellery do you think Alina Maria will wear?

I think none . She will wear a traditional Roumanian wedding dress.

I don´t have the feeling he is "removed" at all! Nicolae and his wife seem to be more actively envolved in engagements and charity than ever before.

They are very active in their private endeavors indeed trying to outdo the royal highnesses. None of these activities are done in the capacity of representing the Romanian royal family currently headed by his aunt. So yes, all of this doesn't change anything about him being completely removed from the line of succession and from any involvement in official royal affairs.

If for example count Ingolf of Rosenborg suddenly was extremely active in all kinds of engagements and charity work that would be fine but he would not be doing so representing the Danish royal family. Had he done so in the 60's and 70's it would surely have been seen as him trying to overshadow the lawful Danish royal house.

However, there are other threads to continue this discussion.

I never claimed he is doing this as a representative of the RRF. Still he is doing it for his personal love to Romania which, as I see it, ranges above this royal house who is not even officially reigning.
Anyway, N. is always welcomed with open arms and affection where ever he goes as every kind of media material prooves!

So, perhaps it is even an advantage to N. to be free from this cold blooded, dysfunctional "family" as he can choose the causes which matter to him without having to owe something to this "magestic custodian"!

We were discussing his removal from the line of succession and his royal titles, so, if you claim he isn't removed I would expect that to be related to the previous posts. So, in that case not representing the royal family is very much part of it.

Latest news about the princely wedding. Archbishop Calinic will attend the religious ceremony of Prince Nicolae in Sinaia
Although the priests of the church at Arges wanted to take place in the Cathedral of Curtea de Arges, Archbishop Calinic will travel to officiate the religious ceremony of the two in Sinaia, the village where he was abbot. Nicolae came to the church in Robaia on Friday, September 14th, the day of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. After the service officiated by Archbishop of Arges and Muscel, at the invitation of His Eminence, the two ate at the convent. Nicolae was not accompanied by his future bride, and most likely, he came to ask for blessings and to appease Calinic. Asked by Journal de Arges about event of the year, His Holiness told us: "His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel gave high approval and blessing as September 30, 2018 to attend the religious ceremony of Prince Nicolae and his wife, Alina Maria Binder on parish church "St. Elias", in Sinaia. The decision is theirs and respected, although I would have liked to have held the religious service in Curtea de Arges. However, they want to come in Curtea de Arges for the customary prayers after the wedding."

Interesting how the media keeps getting it wrong. Nicolae is not a prince.

It's rhe opposite of how other media tend to keep using maiden names for women who married inyo a royal family and therefore should be addressed as princess (or duchess).

You forgot to criticise the Archbishop of Argeș and Muscel, who also referred to the groom as "Prince Nicholas." ;)

I wasn't sure whether the quote was literally taken from his mouth :D but yes, it looks like the archbishop goes along with Nicolae's narrative although he doesn't like them not to use his preferred location.

Are there multiple archbishops in Romania with the one in Bucharest supporting Margareta and this one supporting Nicolae?

The Archbishop is not the only one. I heard many others calling him Prince Nicolae!
I think for many who loved and respected King Mihai it is hard to understand why his
own grandson would not be a Prince.

It's not that hard to understand: because he is the child of one of his daughters and not of a son. Otherwise he would have been a prince from birth. Mihai's other grandchildren don't go around introducing themselves as princesses either because they aren't. Nor do for example the children of Infantas Elena and Cristina who are female line grandchildren of the monarch in a reigning monarchy.

It might not be hard to understand for us knowing a lot about Royalty and titles because it is part of our interests. But the average person "from the street" is often mystified!

The difference between Nicolae and the children of these spanish princesses you named or the Casiraghis (who are also often wrongly called "Prince Pierre Casiraghi", for instance) in Monaco is that these persons, other than King Mihai´s grandson, have never been titled Prince/ Princess and have not stripped of it again only by an intrigue of a jealous, childless aunt!

All this cuddling and cooing the bearded men. One would think Nicholas would like to see Romania advancing into a free and secular and modern and prosperous state, with well-educated, conscious, tolerant and forward-looking citizens. That he acknowledges Bishops, allez, but he is no royal and look back into this thread: the number of those churches, chapels, monasteries, bishops, services, ceremonies this private citizen visited is beyond belief. Even Saint - Baudouin would be surprised by all that eh... religiosity.

Very excited to be invited to the wedding! Have had to change the outfit for the ceremony as the weather will be a little unkind. My evening gown for the reception will just have a pashmina added. Getting the outfits just right has been an existential crisis for months. This last minute change has added to the stress, but can’t wait! Even the loooooooooong flight is not a deterrent.

Thank you so much for posting.

Have a fabulous time at your friends' wedding. :flowers:

I cannot wait to see pictures of the event from the news outlets - fortunately, I am Facebook friends with at least one person who is going. It will be lovely to see Nicholas and Alina surrounded by their close inner circle on their special day.

Have fun!!

Thank you! There are a couple of social gatherings before the wedding and a brunch the day after, so it will be very busy, but exciting! They are so beautifully suited to each other, despite all the travails along the way. I knew she was “the one”, the first time I met her, even while Nick was still oblivious to it! Alina is super bright, very funny and adores her man. So happy for them and honoured to be a part of it all.

"Specification: Mișcarea pentru Regat și Coroană Bucharest offered to organize (not to offer it free) transport to Sinaia for those wishing to attend the wedding of Prince Nicolae and do not have their own means. The public will see from a huge screen placed outside the church St. Elijah the guests arriving and the celebration of the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony. Then will join the procession that will be lead by carriage by the bride and groom to Sinaia Casino, from which balcony the princely couple will greet the crowd. For about three hours, you will witness a historic moment. We have read from the messages of all those who will be in Sinaia on Sunday, that the desire for the public's attire at this event would be the national costume."
