Archduchess Marie Christine of Austria and Count Rodolphe of Limburg-Stirum, 6 Dec 08

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Are there some photos of the paternal cousins of Marie Christine?

yes there is........if you look back at the family tree you will see that Maria-Laura is related to Marie-Christine on both sides.....so there is one cousin on her dad's side. I don't remember seeing any other cousins though

Were the children of Archdukes Rudolf and Marie Helene and the children of Hector and Alexandra Riesle present? Are there some photos of them?

I have lloked at the pictures of the wedding of Philippe and Mathilde of Brabant 9 years ago: the suit wore by Marie Astrid is the same, she only changed the hat, the gloves and the bag. But is admirable that She can use, after a long time, the same suits...

...Are there some photos of them?
There are many photographic links posted in this thread. It may be tedious going through them all to find photos of specific people, but that's the way it's done.
Or try a Google image search.

I love her gown, especially the furry sleeves. Can anyone tell me how old the bride and groom are?

Rodolphe is 29, he was born in March 20, 1979; Marie Christine is 25, she was born in July 31, 1983

I believe she is 25 and he is 29. I don't know why she looks younger to me, maybe because of her fair hair and little face. :)

I agree, Elsa! :flowers:
Wonderful fur details, very elegant gown, but the fabric is just too shiny!

I like the fur details on the sleeves, although I'm not a fan of the shiny fabric of the top coat... I like the little bridesmaids and pageboys' winter look... red velvet is perfect for a winter wedding

Where was the groom's father? Did I miss a picture of him?

I am kind of disappointed to notice photographs have rather been focusing on guests who already get much publicity in the media. It is sad to see that the bride's siblings (except for her bridesmaid - her sister Gabriela) and the groom's immediate family have not been portraid.

The bride's brothers:

I read somewhere that Rodolphe insisted his two brothers and sister would be his whitnesses!
Apparently, the groom's father, Count Christian de Limburg Stirum was born in 1934. IMO he still looks very young and handsome.

Here a bigger picture of the groom's parents. No wonder the children are good-looking!

This is the first time that I have seen a photo of Rodolphe's sister at the wedding. I love her coat and hat. She looked very beautiful.

I believe picture #8 of 9 could easily win an award. Both parents tending to the bride's train before she enters the Church. So sweet!!!!!!!

BTW I had seen a video when the Archduke turned to his wife after this scene but when they entered the Church the bride was only escorted by her father. Was the Archduchess escorted entering the Church by anyone else or she came in alone??

I believe that when it was time to arrive at the church, the bride was escorted by her father and sister and the Archduchess was escorted by the father of the groom - the mother of the groom being escorted by the groom. Somewhere I saw a picture showing Astrid with the groom's father entering the church together.

:previous: Thank you. I saw the parents straightening out the train outside the Church then the AD's gesture towards his wife but missed the mother of the bride being escorted by the father of the groom.:flowers:

very sweet indeed. not only the parents but also the sister of the bride! they seem so laid back.

thee were pictures of astrid entering the church with the groom's father. i guess the archduke escorted marie christine to the altar.

Odette - actually, the photos of the parents straightening her train were taken outside the entrance to the city hall, prior to the civil ceremony. As funny as it seemed to me, the red carpet was laid outside the entrance to the civil ceremony and there was not a red carpet outside the cathedral. Following the civil ceremony there is a photo somewhere of Astrid leaving on the arm of Christian Limburg-Stirum (father of Rudolf) and I presume they then got into the car that took them to the church ahead of the car that took MC, her father and sister.

Odette - you will have to scroll down to find the photos I am referring to below.

Here you can see the bride and family arriving for the civil ceremony with the red carpet:

Here is the mother of the bride (mostly hidden behind the planting) leaving with the father of the groom:

As you can see, no red carpet!

It seems kind of strange to me that the red carpet was not out in front of the church. Was this due to the proximity of the church to the street, or church regulations?

Austrian archduchess weds her count in fairytale ceremony
This is becoming a popular wedding dress style for royal brides. It's very similar to Sophie of Wessex and Princess Martha-Loiuse of Norway's dresses - a coat with train over another dress. I do love the fur cuffs - it's a nice touch for a winter wedding.

I'm a little confused on the family relations.......
The bride is an Austrian Archduchess by birth? Her mother was born a princess of Luxumborg, sister to the current Grand Duke? The groom is a Flemish Count? Why are they marrying in Belgium, and where to the Imperial Family of Brazil fit into all this?

The outer-coat over the gown is not a bridal style I have admired in the past..Sophie, Martha-Louise, Mathilde of Belgium and Letizia of Spain...I HATED every one of those wedding gowns.

But for some reason this one works for me. I wish the mink cuff had been a bit smaller but it's all very elegant indeed when you look at the full length photos and I'd love to see the gown without the over-coat.

Overall, a very beautiful bride indeed. I love Royal weddings like this..stately and regal yet warm and human without every crossing into vulgarity like some recent ones I won't mention!

Maria-Annunziata was adorable as a baby and she has become a great beauty! I can't wait to see who she ends up married to.

Does anyone have a picture of the portuguese royal family at this wedding?

Wow! Thank you Emily. I just fell upon this post. The photos are beautiful.
Till this moment I did not realise the bride went for the civil ceremony in her wedding gown. I thought the civil ceremony usually takes place the day before and the bride dresses in a suit or dress.
Thank you for the beautiful photos and all the detail.........You are correct no red carpet!!!:flowers:

I know I'm in the minority but I don't care for this dress. :ermm:

The dress looks like it's made from sateen instead of satin and the lace looks very inexpensive. The cuffs real fur or not, look too big.
It looks home-made, as if her aunt sewed her dress for her.

She's pretty though, and her veil is lovely.

The 3 ladies that stood out for me was:

1- The mother of the groom. She was THE best dressed to me.
2- Tessy. Even though I don't like the style of the jacket I like the combination.
3- Maria-Laura. I like the messy, up-swept hair and the vintage fur.

According to Point de Vue (#3151) the gown was of satin and was created by Yves Dooms. Her veil was worn by the Empress Eugenie for her wedding to Napoleon III.
The dress was beautiful in its simplicity.
I agree that the groom's mother was the most stylish but to me, Princess Astrid of Belgium and Maria Laura were awful. Tessy looked like she wore borrowed clothes. P Alexandra was simple and stylish.

I completely agree with you about the groom's mother. She was very beautiful.

Odette-Yves Dooms sounds very familiar. Do you know if he has designed for other royal brides in the past?

Yves Dooms also designed Mathilde's engagement ball dress.

Thank you. There you go Sql.
Did he design any other wedding gowns? I never heard of him before.

King Leopold of Belgium married Princess Louise of Orleans. This is the only French relation on her side that I can think at the moment. Perhaps some Belgian members can help us here.
