On April 23, 1946 Princess Sophie married Prince George William of Hanover in Salem, Baden of Germany. Sophie was the youngest daughter of Prince Andrew of Greece and Denmark and Princess Alice of Battenberg.

Sophie was lucky to be married again especially after her first husband died

:previous: I agree When Princess Sophie married her first husband, it was within a few years that her three older sisters got married. At the time no one would have considered any of the Princesses becoming widowed.

Sophie was lucky not to remarry someone who'd been in the SS.

According to her cousin Lady Pamela Hicks, the family either liked Georg much better or felt this marriage was much better for Sophie (or both), but she didn't elaborate.

They got married on St. George's Day, which I think is cute.

Edit: This is also the wedding Prince Philip hitched rides in Allied transport to be able to attend.

Prince Philip attended the second marriage of his sister Princess Sophie at Salem in Baden.
He had not seen Sophie since before the start of the Second World War and she had remained in Germany throughout.
