On July 26, 1931 Princess Ileana of Romania wed Archduke Anton of Habsburg.

Pistols fired in the air celebrated Ileana's marriage after which she and Anton were served bread and salt from a wooden platter in an old Roman custom.
The bride was given away by King Carol II. Archduke Anton wore full evening dress. Princess Ileana's gown was white satin with a long silver train.

Sadly they weren't the only marriage where there were missing family members due to inter-faith marriages. Ileana's nephew later faced the same issue in reverse when he married Anne. Their refusal to raise their kids catholic meant the Pope refused to give them permission to wed. Many of Anne's catholic family members refused, or were not allowed to, attend the wedding. Her uncle, Prince Erik of Denmark, had to give her away.

Carol's wife Helena was also not in attendance at the wedding. She left the country a week before, said in part due to not being allowed to attend. Ileana and Anton saw her off at the airport. It was Ileana's support of Helena in her dispute with Carol, which led Carol's vindictive actions against his sister. He had pushed her marriage to Anton, to force Ileana to leave the country.
