Can we start a thread about weddings that are from long ago? Something like Queen Victoria or Empress Alix of Russia and going back. Let's post photos and sketches.

Consuelo Vanderbilt and the Duke of Marlborough, as shown in the November 1895 issue of Harper's.

The Duchess of Albany, who married Prince Leopold I (Queen Victoria’s youngest son) in 1905. The Duchess’ gown harkened back to an earlier age and was nothing if it wasn’t sumptuous and in good taste. She wore a crown of jewels and flowers supporting her long tulle bridal veil, her shoulders were bare and her short sleeves adorned with jeweled symbols of royalty. Her bosom was swathed in tulle and ruched laces and was set off by a small bouquet of flowers. Her waist was tucked in neatly with a corset and her bodice was sharply V–ed to accentuate her good figure.

Prince Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh (2nd son of Queen Victoria) and Grand Duchess Marie Alexandrovna (only daughter of Tsar Alexander II), 23 January 1874 at the Winter Palace in St. Petersburg. Queen Victoria didn't attend the wedding as it took place so far away from home. Crown Prince Albert Edward (King Edward VII) represented his mother at the marriage proceedings. The couple made their public entry back to London on 12 March and were welcomed by Queen Victoria.

The wedding took place according to the Russian Orthodox rites.

Thanks pdas! Maria Alexandrovna is one of my favourite royals, such a funny woman and one of the few who wasnt to be bullied by anyone, not even Queen Victoria.

You are welcome, Marengo:)

Although, I can't say the same about Marie, I just somehow never liked her. According to me the woman was a major snob. If you want funny/eccentric, her daughter, Marie of Romania, definitely gets the cake.

Wedding Dresses

The pictures of the dresses are really beautiful.
i would like to know more about the wedding dresses worn by the royal families of the middle east. if anyone has some pictures to show i would greatly appreciate it. in particular the most extravagent gowns ever made.i would like to see dresses up to the 1960's.recent wedding gowns,i've seen alot of.
as we all know that the middle eastern princesse are known to have the best gowns made by the best couturiers in Paris.I've seen a documentary about the shah of iran's wedding to princess soraya and seen her great confection of a gown by Dior.it was so heavy that she was struggling to even walk in it.I read that in the 1930's when the shah married priness Fawzia of Egypt, that her Paris wedding gown cost US $ 20 000.00 at the time.Id like to see pictures and know what happened to these extravagant gowns???

Princess Amélie's wedding dress was made of faille silk with a long train, and her lace veil was a gift from friends from France. On her head she wore a garland of orange blossom; she didn’t wear any jewelry.
