Can we start a thread about weddings that are from long ago? Something like Queen Victoria or Empress Alix of Russia and going back. Let's post photos and sketches.

"Can we start a thread with weddings from way back when?"
Yes, yes and yes! Here is a link to a wedding picture of young Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands and her husband Hendrik. She was, believe it or not, a gorgeous bride. One of the best of the DRF. Love her dress. Not sure of the year they got married; 1898 maybe? Anyone know? The Wathcher? Marengo? http://www.koningkeizerrijken.info/w...na-hendrik.jpg |

The Duchess of Albany, who married Prince Leopold I (Queen Victoria’s youngest son) in 1905. The Duchess’ gown harkened back to an earlier age and was nothing if it wasn’t sumptuous and in good taste. She wore a crown of jewels and flowers supporting her long tulle bridal veil, her shoulders were bare and her short sleeves adorned with jeweled symbols of royalty. Her bosom was swathed in tulle and ruched laces and was set off by a small bouquet of flowers. Her waist was tucked in neatly with a corset and her bodice was sharply V–ed to accentuate her good figure.

Lord Edward Stanley (Earl of Derby) & Sibyl Cadogan
Lord Edward Stanley (Earl of Derby) married Sibyl Cadogan in 1917. She wore a long (but not floor length) dress, swathed at her narrow hips, with plain long sleeves, and a V–ed neckline. Her stockings—which actually showed!—were plain white. http://www.vintageconnection.net/arc...eBrideWore.htm ![]() Last edited by Elsa M.; 12-26-2005 at 03:33 PM. Thank you. I would just ask you to post them via Image Shack or any other image host, in order to save our bandwidth.

My own grandmother married in 1932 I believe, and her wedding attire looked really similar to Ms. Cadogan here. (my grandmother is Dutch, and perhaps the Dutch were at the time a tad slow in embracing new fashion trends?!) |

Prince Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh (2nd son of Queen Victoria) and Grand Duchess Marie Alexandrovna (only daughter of Tsar Alexander II), 23 January 1874 at the Winter Palace in St. Petersburg. Queen Victoria didn't attend the wedding as it took place so far away from home. Crown Prince Albert Edward (King Edward VII) represented his mother at the marriage proceedings. The couple made their public entry back to London on 12 March and were welcomed by Queen Victoria.
The wedding took place according to the Russian Orthodox rites. Thanks pdas! Maria Alexandrovna is one of my favourite royals, such a funny woman and one of the few who wasnt to be bullied by anyone, not even Queen Victoria.
