I believe the princess is very busy behind the screens with her work for the red cross, or so we could see in the interview with her last year. Now the new princesses came into the royal family there are less public events that she needs to go to and HRH can focus more on the thing that is closest to her heart: healthcare/ the red cross. I believe that in that interview the remark was made that one of the princess' children told them that while most older people actually would start doing less, their agenda just gets busier and busier.

One in what will undoubtebly be a row of gifts and programmes for the man who will turn 70 on april 30th.
If one,it is he who absolutely so deserves all the honours and attention for over 4 decades of undivided attention,
and sacrifice, for us all in so many fields.

From our blog:

Prof. Pieter van Vollenhoven, husband of princess Margriet of The Netherlands confessed to reporters that he struggles with the memories he has of the tragedy that happened on Queen’s Day in Apeldoorn.
The professor was a guest speaker at Vrije Universiteit (Free University) in Amsterdam today. He was at the university to give a lecture to the students of social sciences. As chairman of the national safety commission he explained the students the importance and the difficulties of independent research after accidents, something he strived for since the early eighties. He also held a phea to quickly impliment a safety law, which has as goal to show that public safety is a primairy task of the state.
After the lecture the professor confessed to reporters of the NOS and NOVA that the entire family is still upset. ‘The images keep returning’, Pieter said. Pieter also told about his experiiences at the Gelre hospital, where he and his wife met the medical staff at April 30th. Around 80 employees of the hospital, from doctors to coffee ladies, shared their emotions with the couple. Almost all victims were first treated at the Gelre hospital, before some of them were moved to other hospitals in the region.

I saw him.Very moving. And what courage and humanity to go visit the hospital in Apeldoorn on the very day too,
and then share the emotions of all these people.Admirable.Bless them.

I love the fact that he was so open and honest about his feelings with everyone. Hopefully, sharing this will help others who are going through the same thing to feel like it is okay to talk about their feelings. He is a very courageous and compassionate person.

From our blog:

Newspaper the ‘Volkskrant‘ reports that two car-park attendents of the private company ‘Parkeercombinatie Holland’ wrote two fines for the two Audi cars that were wrongly parked at the pavement in front of the shop of ‘Oger’ in the PC Hooftstraat. The cars were transporting Prof. Pieter van Vollenhoven, brother-in-law of queen Beatrix, who apparently had some suits to buy in the favourite shopping street of the Amsterdam nouveau riche.
When the two men want to put the fine on the cars, three men, two bodyguards and a driver dressed in a police uniform leave the shop and start talking to the two car-park attendents, who hesitate and do not put the fine on the cars after all. The camera’s of AT5, Amsterdam’s local television station, record the scene and a small local drama is born. Employees of city district Oud-Zuid says that they saw the clip and that their policy is that anybody that parks on the pavement is fined. They have been in touch with ‘Parkeercombinatie Holland’ and their spokesman Jorrit Visser says: ‘It won’t happen again’.
Frans Zuiderhoek, of the national police (KLPD) says that he did not see the clip but that if the car was parked wrongly, it was not the responsibility of Prof. Pieter van Vollenhoven but of the people in charge of his security. Zuiderhoek was in touch with the three security officers of the professor, they claim that they did not ask the car-park attendents not to give them a ticket at all.
See a clip of the ‘incident’ at the website of AT5, clickhere. And the article in Dutch from the Volkskrant here.
