Prince Bernhard participated in the closing race of the Winter Endurances Series at Circuit Zandvoort on March 5.

Good Lord. No republican society needed with "royals" like these.

I would advice the King to distance more:

Luana, Zaria, Eloise, Claus-Casimir and Eleonore become Van Lippe-Biesterfeld van Amsberg. No longer Van Oranje-Nassau van Amsberg.

Maurits, Bernhard, Pieter-Christiaan and Floris and their children become Van Lippe-Biesterfeld van Vollenhoven. No longer Van Oranje-Nassau, Van Vollenhoven.

It is a mystery why the nephews and nieces of the King are invisible while the more distant related Van Vollenhoven bunch - invisible for 364 days a year- do attend King's Day...

And if you didn't need a bucket yet: Gordon is calling the Prince 'Burnie'.

His brother Floris & his midlife crisis were interviewed by RTL boulevard yesterday. He was dressed in a hoodie and DJ-ing at an event in Rotterdam. They used the informal 'je' instead of the more polite 'u'.

The children of the three younger sons of Margriet are simply 'van Vollenhoven already, so that problem is solved. Queen Beatrix was wise to make her other grandchildren 'only' counts. Van Nassau-Amsberg without the Orange part would have been an option too, as was the tradition in the family: we had the Nassau-Ouwerkerk, Nassau-Breda, Nassau-Lalecq and all the various German branches.

Van Nassau was no option because the Dutch branch of the dynasty became extinct with Queen Wilhelmina. Van Oranje-Nassau is the name of the royal dynasty.

But you are right: the use of Van Oranje-Nassau will end after the four sons but it is clear as long as they are "prins van Oranje-Nassau" any distancing from the Royal House is difficult.

The same counts for the chidren of Friso and Constantijn. Sticking to Van Lippe-Biesterfeld van Amsberg had distanced the gravinfluencer more.

All this, the Pandjesprins, a private jet to the F1 in Baku, Gordon, the midlife DJ prince, the gravinfluencer are symptoms of the vulgarisation of the royal family.

Could it be down to a difference in upbringing in a different time? The Vollenhoven boys grew up with royal titles and two grandparents (well, at least the grandmother) who didn't want to differentiate between them and their cousins. I have a feeling that had it been up to the boys' competent and dignified parents alone they might have been brought up a little less in the public eye. The four VONVA's have been just that as in brought up mostly privately by parents with no expectations of a public role and with the one odd apple the others seem content, at least for now, to not have a public persona.

That seems a good analysis to me. Prince Friso already played no role anymore and Prince Constantijn keeps his royal profile as low-key as possible, let alone their children.

The two London-based countesses will become millionaires anyway, Beatrix' only grandson Claus-Casimir seems born with uncle Friso's commercial eye and probably is not waiting for the limitations of a public rotal life. Eleonore is still an adolescent leaves it the spotlight-hungry gravinfluencer Eloise. That is why it was a missed opportunity not to name them Van Lippe-Biesterfeld van Amsberg, to distance them more.

All grandchildren of Princess Margriet and Pieter van Vollenhoven are already no Van Oranje-Nassau but bear the surname Van Lippe-Biesterfeld van Vollenhoven (children of Maurits) and Van Vollenhoven (children of the three other sons). The patrician family Van Vollenhoven has branches as Raedinck van Vollenhoven, Messchert van Vollenhoven, Van der Wallen van Vollenhoven, Van der Poorten van Vollenhoven.

By hindsight it was a missed opportunity to elevate Pieter into the (untitled) Nobility with the predicate Jonkheer and the well-sounding surname Stuyling de Lange van Vollenhoven. (His mother was from the patrician family Stuyling de Lange, his father from the patrician family Van Vollenhoven).

By hindsight it is remarkable the sons of Princess Margriet would develop like this. From pictures and videos they always seemed more Tüchtig and traditional in their upbringing than their cousins from aunt Beatrix.

The difference was that no Royal Decree was needed, no surname established, because Princess Christina was leaving the Royal House.

The same did count for Princess Irene. She happened to be married with a royal herself but regarding names in exactly the same situation.

Leaves Prince Friso. As (in 2004) children automatically inherit the paternal surname and eventual titles, a Royal Decree was needed to establish the surname of his eventual children.

When Pieter-Christiaan and Floris left the Royal House no Royal Decrees were needed either as their title prins van Oranje-Nassau was for life only and not hereditary. Their eventual children automatically became Van Vollenhoven.

But in the meantime we have four gentlemen with the style prins van Oranje-Nassau, Van Vollenhoven, four in-laws with the style prinses van Oranje-Nassau, Van Vollenhoven, one gentleman with the hereditary title and predicate graaf van Oranje-Nassau, jonkheer van Amsberg and four ladies with the personal and not hereditary title and predicate gravin van Oranje-Nassau, jonkvrouw van Amsberg. That makes 13 Van Oranje-Nassaus outside the Royal House and I think, by hindsight, it better could have been the Rosenborg, Frederiksborg, Monpezat way, a clear distance from the Royal House by strictly using Van Oranje-Nassau for the Royal House only.

It includes influencer managment apparently - the days we live in. It seems an exiting opportunity, not many Dutch students from will be able to secure an internship in New York. Both her parents did university IIRC, as did Pieter van Vollenhoven. I think this will be one of the first generations where it is not so uncommon for children to study at a lower level than the parents did. I remember attending the graduation ceremony of someone 20-15 years ago where the father -a chamberlain at the time- thought it was a good idea to commemorate in his speech to a gasping audience that it was such a disappointment to him that the son ´only´ did the Hoge School.

True. I guess their parents' generation was the first one where young adults were mostly able to study at the highest level they could achieve and where someone educational level was less dependent on family background (although family background still played into it somewhat).

Isabella's parents indeed bot completed university studies (doctoraal, so comparble to master's) in psychology (Annette) and economics (Bernhard).
