I was asked this by someone on a Facebook Royal group today and was wondering if anyone could help me.

Here was the question:

Why is there a pretender to the Portuguese throne when the last Portugal King was Assassinated and the monarchy was abolished?

The monarchy was abolished in 1910. Our last king, Manuel II, died in 1932 and had no children.

However it became necessary to find a suitor to the throne, and the father of D.Duarte Pio, D.Duarte Nuno gained some recognition from the monarchist groups ...

Without forgetting the Dover pact made between Bragança D.Miguel and King Dom Manuel II. Although questioned.

After Dom Manuel II's death in 1932, supporters of D. Manuel II accepted D.Duarte Nuno.

In particular, the response to the Pact of Dover was made by Maria Pia de Saxe-Coburg-Braganza. and its alleged successor dynastic Foster, Rosario Poidimani. Maria Pia defended be bastard daughter of King Charles I, and half-sister of King Manuel II.
