As far as I know all of the princesses who were commoners have worn a tiara for the first time during their pre-wedding gala festivities. We have all seen Mette Marit, Maxima, Mary, Letizia accompany their husband-to-be at various occasions after their engagement, including weddings WITHOUT wearing any tiara, I guess that's the protocol. Charlène was far from being ridiculous at Victoria's wedding without a tiara. In my opinion she would have been if she wore one, especially that her engagement to Prince Albert was not even announced back then!

You know what? We could have a woman in Charlene who does not like historic baubles. Do you wear stuff you don't like? I don't. Perhaps she is very aware that she doesn't need diamonds and gold to look spectacular. Really, all this woman needs is a pair of earrings with her hair slicked back! I'm sure she will acquire many jewels during her time as Princess of Monaco, but in my opinion, gilding the lily is not necessary at all!!!

Those earings are beautiful, the bracelet not so much.

Beautiful jewelry for the Rose Ball. She is building quite an impressive collection of jewelry. I wonder, which piece of jewelry will she be given or be allowed to wear as the wife of Prince Albert from Princess Grace's collection.

Of course Maxima didn't look ridiculous, but I don't think that we can compare her case with that of Charlene. PA and Charlene only announced their engagement after Victoria's wedding. It would have been really strange if she had worn a tiara even before her engagement, especially since the Grimaldis aren't much of tiara wearers (unfortunately ). Seeing that neither Ps. Grace nor her daughters wore wedding tiara, we'll be very lucky if Charlene will wear one.

If she does wear a tiara she'll be accused by the usual suspects of grandstanding or getting above herself or having delusions of grandeur.
Plus the predictable "If it was good enough for Grace..." etc etc.

Yes, you are quite right. She will be careful to avoid that kind of criticism.
Maybe we will see her with a tiara after the wedding, although there won't be that many tiara events. All the current CP's are married, the British traditionally have morning weddings (no tiara alert at Will's wedding!), not many state visits going on in Monaco... But the time may come that the future Princess of Monaco has to don a tiara, and I hope that will will be one from the family.

Princess Grace always wore a tiara for the Gala-perfomance at the Opera on the evening of the National Day. Perhaps Charlene will do the same.
There was also a Gala at the Opera for the Wedding Celebrations of Rainier and Gracia. And it was a tiara Event. Perhaps the same next year.

I agree - we might not see a tiara often or soon.
However it will be VERY intersting to see which tiara she then would wear? I am not aware that any family tiaras have been left - all went to Caroline.
So PLEASE - Mon Prince - go and get her a beautiful new one - to start a new tradition.

Is it certain that Caroline owns those jewels personally? From all I read about it, it was more or less what people assumed, stince she was the only one who wore the fringe tiara (as a necklace) and the pearl tiara. I can well imagine that those jewels went to the prince and Caroline wore while acting as Monaco's first lady. And if I am not mistaken, Grace had a couple of tiaras which were never worn after her death, like the Bains de Mer ruby tiara, the Van Cleef diamond tiara or the diamond necklace/tiara with the arcs. I have seen pictures of Grace with a couple of other tiaras, but don't now if they were borrowed.
It would certainly nice if they re-stard the tradition of the first lady wearing a tiara on the eve of national day. But I have the feeling they might not. We have to wait and see.

I think it was more or less confirmed, that all the family jewelry went to Caroline - although I still consider it strange - as there was a male heir....
Stefan - maybe you can help?

It really would be extremely strange if all the jewels went to one child and the other two receiving nothing. If there were an estrangement between Ranier and Albert and Stephanie, it would be understandable. But that was not the case. And as you say, Albert is the heir, it doesn't make sense to leave the heir without family jewel.
Also royal houses usually don't give much information about such matters. Most information comes from more or less (un-)reliable sources, and rumours are so often repeated on the internet till they are accepted as fact. That is why I still hope that Albert got his share of the jewellery.
But it would be great if Stefan or someone else could help!

But Carina Axelsson wore one at the wedding, didn't she? and she's not even married to Prince Gustav.

Can I just say, that aside from her wedding day, I really don't see Charlene as a tiara wearing person? I think she looks great as she is, and when I try to picture her with a tiara either worn by Princess Grace or Princess Caroline she looks ridiculous. Has anybody photoshopped this out to see what she's look like?

I don't think that we can really compare Charlene and Carina's situations.
It looks like Carina wearing tiaras is a visible sign that the Gustav's family has fully accepted her as his partner, even if they can't marry because of Gustav's late grandfather's will. And the Berleburg family has a strong "tiara-tradition". Gustav's mother, aunt (Queen Margrethe), sisters and cousins have all worn tiara's before their marriage. And they often attend white tie events in Denmark.
But look at Monaco: Stephanie never ever wore a tiara in her life. Even at Prince Albert's accession Caroline didn't wear one (whereas CP Victoria and Sophie Wessex did). Sofar no Monaco bride has worn a wedding tiara. I am convinced that Charlene will only wear tiaras until after her marriage, (but I would love to be proven wrong )
