Romanian Royal Jewels

I was wondering if there are any Jewels left in Romania to the Royal Family apart for the Greek Tiara that is so often seen on Crown Princess Margarita.

I don't think so because Queen Marie divided her jewellery collection in an awfully fair way between her children and most of her jewels went to her girls, so there weren't many pieces that stayed in with her grandson Michael.

However! Per John Sullivan's book on Ducky, Missy bought a large amount of jewelry from her sister to help her out. And a lot of it came from their mother, GD Marie.

Yes she did had an inheritance from her mother but most of her personal jewelery were stolen during WWI because ironically she had sent them in Russia to be safeguarded. However, Romania came out stronger from the war I believe and due to her popularity and the excellent work she had done during the war, Ferdinard gave her freedom to buy whatever she liked in order to rebuilt her collection. She bought Miechen's fabulous sapphire Kokoshnik from her sister and many other Romanov and pieces, as well as some Cartier. However, most of her jewels went to her daughters - I guess she believed Carol and Madame Lupescu couldn't be trusted around precious stones

Sadly no I do not have pictures yet , I haven't researched her jewellery much - which is a crime considering her collection. . I made a mistake in my previous post because Marie did lost many jewels during WWI but they were not an inheritance from her mother since then her mother was pretty much alive .When WWI broke up Marie sent her most important jewellery for safekeeping in The National Bank in Russia but the Bolsheviks refused flatly to return to her even a sigle pearl and she was quite devastated because the collection came from her late father and as she put it " it was all he had left me " (i wouldn't trust that statement much because she was always kind of exagerating in words - besides Prince Alfred should be more rich than that. ) So, after the war she brought new pieces and was comforted for her loss I guess with all these Romanovs jewels. We mostly remember Queen Mary as a collector, but Missy wasn't shy on jewels either.

Why would she send them to Russia instead of England? Russo wonders.
From the Sullivan book, GD Marie, Missy and Ducky's mother (By the the Duchess of Coburg) had placed hers in a safe in Switzerland. Since Ducky was always her favorite, she gave Ducky the diamonds whereas Missy got pearls. Though the writer had said that the diamonds were more valuable, I'm sure the pearls were stunners as well!!

The Romanian government decided to send a part of the national treasure and gold deposit in Russia and I guess Missy decided that her jewels would be safe if they were placed there too. However, the Bolsheviks only returned the money (and I am not sure if it was the whole amount).

No, they had not returned much. It is an ongoing discussion between the two countries, especially when it comes to any kind of treaty signing.

As a gesture of good faith, one would hope Russia would give them BACK!

There are a few posts with pics on Queen Marie's lost jewellery (not lost as in misplaced but lost as in stolen by the Bolsheviks) in the Unidentified, Mystery and Lost Royal Jewels thread.
In that thread, do a "search this thread" with 'Romania' and 'Queen Marie'.

As beautiful as this tiara is, I am not liking CP Margarita's hair being teased over the top of it. Makes it look a little costume-y to me.

That's not a great angle--I have seen photos where it is impressive--but overall, it doesn't crack my list of favorite tiaras.

I was reading biography of Prince Tomislav of Yugoslavia in which he states that he visited his uncle Carol II during his exile in Portugal and that he and his wife were frequent visitors of Casino in Estoril in which Magda Lupescu was wearing some magnificent jewels...which one,he didn't mention!

Carol II left Romania with a considerable personal fortune, which undoubtedly gave him the means to purchase jewels for his wife. His mother's jewels were all retained by her and left to her daughters.

So.. other than the Greek Key Tiara, nothing else is left? I know what happened historically, but am curious about the present time. Even the Bulgarian Royals seem to have three tiaras at their disposal.
