Pictures from CORBIS

1988 - Queen Sofia of Spain, during an official visit by the Queen of Great Britain

Besides the Magnificent Tiara wonderful Jewels

_/*\/*\/*\/*\/*\_

Many of us wondered to whom belongs the tiara Queen Sofia used in Thailand.

When searching on the net for other information related to Simoneta I found an interview she granted ELMUNDO a while ago, where among other things she talked about that tiara...

If you are interested in the complete interview it is here (in spanish), but the part I think suits this thread in below:

"Question: What jewel from your family you would like to have?

Answer: I believe that the jewels of the Crown belongs to the Crown, although they are from the family must all be with the person that is going to represent the position. For example, the tiara that I used in my wedding was from my grandmother and I think that if the Queen has it she is going to give much more use than I would, or at least will have more opportunities to shine it. They lent it to me to marry and I don't need it for nothing else. "

Regards,
mtbcm :)

I wonder why the Queen hasn't been wearing the above necklace lately. I think it would look beautiful in Princess Letizia's neck.

By the way, I read in Hola magazine that both diamond bracelets Queen Sofia wore in Thailand originally belonged to Queen Victoria Eugenia. I'll try to post a picture.

Maybe with her petite figure Doña Letizia doesn't like to use this grand jewels... but she would look regal with it I'm sure.

I got another zoom picture of the lovely bracelets that originally belonged to Queen Victoria Eugenie and we also get to see two nice diamond rings in Queen Sofia's hands.

Thank you, zarzuela! As mtbcm, the pictures are great! :)

The two rings in the Queen's left hand are the engagement one and the wedding ring? If they are, this is the best caption of them.
BTW, the bracelets are gorgeous! They have a quite good design, i think.

OH, the bracelets are gorgeous! I just love them? Is it just me, or do they both look the same though?

For the " passing jewels ":( sorry it's a very bad translation for " les bijoux de passages " regarding the jewels which are inherited Queen to Queen as you know to avoid that the main pieces of Spain Royal jewels could be scattered.

Thanks for the explanation!

I've a doubt: Just the tiaras, bracelets, necklaces and earrings of gala dinners and that, could be share?

The Queen has two types of jewels, which belong to the Spanish Royal Family and those that are of her property as personal gifts. The majority of the jewels that belong to the Royal Family, belonged to the Queen Victoria Eugenia, how for example the most important tiaras, the necklace of big diamonds with its earrings, a necklace of big pearls ... and some pieces more. The " jewels of passing " are a few certain, most valuable pieces, later the Queen has other jewels that belong to her, but it would not be strange that any of her personal jewels also go on in the future to this collection. The jewels of the Family are of the King and later they will pass to the Prince; in this case they pass from wife of King to wife of King ... they cannot go out of this circle ... I imagine that the Infantas will recibe other pieces that are out of these jewels, since the sisters of the King received.

In this forum there are several articles about the topic, because recently one has written a book.

Beautiful diamond necklace and matching earrings. It's the same she wore in Rome and Amman. Picture by Farabola Foto, Italy.
