Not a fan of the tiara but it's great to see her in something new!
There is no way to know if the 9 provinces can only be worn by queens, it was a gift to Astrid and she wears it in her most famous picture. Having been the most famous/beloved queen in Belgium people didn’t quiet accept when Leopold married for the second time. The tiara must have belonged to Leopold after Astrid’s death otherwise Lilian wouldn’t be able to wear the big diamonds in her gold necklace. She might have simply decided not to wear a piece so associated with Astrid, it could have been Leopold’s decision to give his late wife’s tiara to the new queen (Fabiola) as a wedding gift. No, it is not an official crown jewel, as Belgium has none. But with the restriction upon using it, I consider it a semi official crown jewel.
more correctly, the BASE of the Nine Provinces Tiara...
Glittering Royal Events Message Board: New official portraits
Looking at the new official Pictures, I see the sapphire ring on Mathildes right Hand. Can somebody confirm, if this is the sapphire ring, she received as replacement for her Engagement ring?
We never saw her engagement ring (ruby) since a long time. Did the Queen lost it ?
That is a lovely pair of diamond earrings. Are they new or have they been seen on her previously?
She also wore them on the gala on April 29, the evening before the inauguration of King Willem Alexander, and on the inauguration itself.
The ruby ring isn't lost, Maria-Olivia. Q Mathilde still wears the ring, for ex when her husband ascended the throne on 21st July.We never saw her engagement ring (ruby) since a long time. Did the Queen lost it ?
Mathilde definitly needs more tiara appearances.I am hoping to see her wear the full Nine Provinces Tiara, and maybe her wedding tiara in 2014.
It is the Queen's tiara. Princess Lilian was not allowed to wear it on its whole.
The first time we saw the Queen's tiara after the late Queen Astrid was Queen Fabiola on her wedding day.
First time a Queen is wearing the Sash of the Leopold's Order, wonderful Queen wearing her jewels more as Queen Fabiola did.
