I think they are rubies. IMO, garnets tend to be a more brown than maroon, and these seem a lot more maroon to me.

Whatever they are- the tassels look strange IMO.

I quite like them, they look refreshing and match well with the dress. Also I still think that they are garnet, as I don't think that they look brown, nor do I think that garnet usually looks brown.

But I think the the Queen was uncommonly under-bejewelled. Not even a brooch for the sash, that's unusual for Maxima.

Saturday Sparkler: The Antique Pearl Tiara | The Court Jeweller

This tiara is one of my favorites. It's stunning, timeless, and regal.

Most of the times the necklace is worn with this emerald clasp:

Leave it to Queen Máxima to look spectacular, even when it is only business-suit-and-tie... Wow.

No tiara, but maybe there was a sparkling brooch on the left side of her hairstyle? So far we only got pics from the right side and the front. And in the front pics there seems to be a kind of dent in the hair that might indicate that a jewel is fixed there. So I really hope that we will get better pics from that side.

Fortunately not, the emerald tiara is one of the most unfortunate pieces of jewelry that the family has. Esp. since they added the two prongs to the side.

I believe that Beatrix has never worn the emerald. Maxima has worn it once IIRC in Norway and Laurentien once at Prinsjesdag.
