Looks to be a new brooch for the Queen - maybe it was a gift she received during the Irish state visit last year?

I know Peter Robinson was organising a gift for the Queen to commemorate her Jubilee, to be paid for by politicians who wanted to participate. Did we ever hear what they got her in the end? Maybe a nice brooch with a Northern Irish connection?

I cant remember if ive heard what was given in the end - but that is also a very good possibilty as well

It was the Frosted Sunflower (or Dahlia, as some prefer) today for Her Majesty's historic meeting.

Do you think she chose it for a symbolic meaning, or simply because that color she was wearing was a difficult match?

That's a lovely brooch and the setting nicely matches the gold embroidery on her hat and collar. She could have also chosen to wear one of her emerald brooches, i.e. Queen Mary's emerald brooch, but this is a good choice.

I don't think there is a symbolism behind the brooch; as Baroness said, it just goes really well with the embroidery on her hat and suit.

This could've gone in any of the Queen's jewellery threads, but this is the 1st one I saw.

This glorious video shows some of the diamonds that will be on display this summer at BP for the Diamond Jubilee. Nothing really new, but just enjoy the close ups and the twinkling as the pieces are rotated for the camera. I suppose you could call this diamond porn .

Actually, AdmirerUS may have been onto something when she thought HM wore the sunflower brooch in Ireland for a specific reason. It's a universal symbol of peace. This is just one link I found about it:

The Queen wore one of Queen Victoria's Bow Brooches when she attended the Bomber Command Memorial yesterday.
The brooch was commissioned by Queen Victoria and left to the Crown in her will; all Queens (Consort and Regnant) since have worn it on numerous occasions.

I did see it a few years ago in another summer exhibition and it was hard to tear myself away. I'd always wondered just how pink that central stone was and I was thrilled to see that it is truly and unmistakeably pink. I had worried that it had been enhanced in photos, but no, it is a very beautiful shade - I'd liken it to a sweetpea flower.

I have now treated myself to the copy available from the Royal collection shop, and I'm very pleased with it. I look forward to wearing it too:

Two coral roses with brilliant centres and two curled diamond leaves. The Cartier brooch given on June 13, 1990 by the chancellor of the Order of Liberation [of France] to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of June 18, 1940.
This has only been seen in public a few times;

While HM's grape brooch is lovely, for me the Jardine brooch is definitely the "star." It reminds me of a stylized compass and very nautical in nature; absolutely magnificent.

It's not one of Her Majesty's often-seen brooches, but she has worn it on several occasions, including visit to Singapore and Royal Ascot 2006.
The brooch had been part of the Queen Mother's personal jewellery collection; the present Queen inherited it following her mother's death in 2002.

It's worn on pretty regular basis (though not too often); one such occasion was a visit to RAF Valley, Anglesey, Wales on April 1, 2011.
