I read somewhere that modifications needed to be made for the large brooches. The chips, etc.

People talk about the Cullinan III & IV (Granny's Chips) being heavy, but if you work out the carats (total 158) at one fifth of a gram per carat, those huge stones weigh only 31.6 grams which is really not that much. It also has a quite delicate frame.

I'd imagine that many of our very modest faux brooches weight more than that, so I'm pretty sure that the couture construction of any of HMs outfits would be quite robust enough, even without extra reinforcement or padding of any kind.

With the last 5 unidentified brooches from Angela Kelly.s book, my total has reached 200.
Badges 54 with many still to be identified.
Lovely to see so many new royal brooches.

It's another new brooch. Wouldn't it be nice (if highly unlikely) for the palace to publish a list of Jubilee gifts? This is a real sparkler! See also From Her Majesty's Jewel Vault usually within 24 hours of an appearance!

The brooch in your photo is the HMS Vanguard brooch. Gift from Messrs John Brown (Shipping) on the launching of HMS Vanguard, 1944

Thanks for posting this Gill. I looked for it but found no pic of the brooch. I did find some lovely pictures of QEII from the time, though.

Does anybody recognise the brooch HM wore in Bristol?

As Gill said, the Lace Diamond and Ruby Brooch was a wedding gift. It was described as a gold lace-work brooch set with diamonds and rubies.
Among other occasions, the Queen wore the brooch for the Qatar State visit.

I give big props to the designers of this brooch, and their fine intentions however... To me it looks like a not quite functional nano-bot toy. If you have children dreaming of these little critters for XMas - you know they are odd bits of functionality connected to a power source and able to scramble awkwardly over rough terrain. But it is good to see the Queen giving the brooch another outing.

Wow, what a stunning brooch. Has HM not worn it for a while? Maybe she's recycled it for some other piece? It seems right up her alley.

It's indeed a stunning piece but unfortunately, the Queen hasn't worn it for many years (decades, possibly). However, there is no reason to think the brooch is no longer with the Queen; after all, there are many beautiful pieces that haven't seen the light of the day for much longer.

It just seems odd to me that she's not worn it for decades, it would seem. It seems like the sort of brooch HM loves - fairly traditional, not too small or too big, with plenty of sparkle and just one colour stone so she could wear it with pretty much anything. Some of the brooches she doesn't wear seem to be because she's just not a particular fan of the style - often more modern, or because they're very specifically from a particular part of the world or armed forces regiment.

I wonder if she's gifted it to someone close to her who's not in the public eye? Or used the stones for another piece? It would be a pity not to see it again.
