They have a different colour indeed. These last years she is wearing more and more black pearls, I assume she aquired them not to long ago.

So nice to see the Queen wearing her sapphire tiara during this visit! Finally one that is actually large enough to poke out over her hair! She looks wonderful wearing it.
And I love those earrings with the white/black pearls. Very unique!

The necklace
Does anyone know what necklace Beatrix is wearing here?
It seems to be quite beautiful!
Does it belong to a parure (or to the dutch jewels in general)? Or must it be a personal necklace of her?

Beeldbank
Sorry, the pictures are bad qualitly, but maybe someone has good eyes.

The collier you asked about is one of the items from Queen Emma's elaborate Grand Parure of Diamonds and Sapphires. On this picture you see Princess Irene wearing the same necklace:

Princess Irene really was stunning in her younger years, she is still an attractive and elegant woman now IMO. thanks for the great pic Henri
Beatrix does not seem to be very into necklaces does she, conosdering the collection she has to choose from? Especially the grander ones, not even when she was young, maybe because she does not have the longest and slimmest of necks She always wears the most beautiful brooches though, so they sort of compensate.

Thanks alot Henri M.!
Wow, it looks stunning! I also like it on Beatrix. I wonder why she didn't wear it more often. I never saw another picture of her wearing this collier..
Princess Irene looked stunning with it!

That is exactly the reason. She once explained: 'We Oranjes have no neck'.

These are actually pendants from a brooch. See http://members.lycos.nl/orangenassau look under Brooches, then click Queen Emma's devant de corsage

A close-up of a sapphire bow brooch that the Queen seldom wears. Perhaps nice for Princess Mabel
The picture was originally posted and scanned by Marianne on the Royal Jewels MB.

To complicate matters, there is a second sapphire bow brooch, also seldom worn. I don´t know which one belongs to which parure but maybe others can help us. This sapphire seems to be more square instead of oval, and the bow is different too of course. A pity that both haven´t been seen since the 80-ties.
