Princess CharlŤne on the contrary of the Duchess of Cambridge does not want to wear Princess Grace Jewels;
She receive new jewels at her wedding , she wore them only on a few times and went to a Royal Event to Sweden without tiara !

To be fair, I think theremight be other reasons. Maybe Grace left her tiaras to her daughters, maybe the family prefers not to keep them as a sort of a legacy... I don't know, but I don't think it is entirely up to Charlene to decide whether to wear some of Grace's heirlooms or not...

Grace's jewels at her pre-wedding event.

Royal Jewel Rewind: Grace and Rainier's Pre-Wedding Gala | The Court Jeweller

The jewels are wonderful. I also loved her hair.

hm - the story seems odd and somehow made up for me.
I once read that Rainer originally proposed with a different ring - with diamonds and rubies - but this ring was changed afterwards. Need to find the article....

In one of her last films, "High Society", Grace played a newly engaged young woman and she actually wore her real engagement ring from Rainer in the film. She made that stipulation with the director.

Euh... I beg to differ somewhat. Princess Grace never had the fabulous treasures of her mother-in-law, the Duchesse de Valentinois, and is completely outglitzed and -glammed by her daughter, the Princess of Hannover.

The assessment is exactly the opposite: Princess Grace, for decades married to the Sovereign Prince of Monaco, one of the wealthiest royals around, had a surprisingly small collection of jewels, few of these with any royal provenance. It will always remain a mystery why this worldfamous lady had to wear loans. "Merci monsieur Van Cleef, here are your jewels back. Thank you for borrowing..."

It is a mystery when their son Albert has been very generous in acquiring beautiful pieces for his wife Charlene. As has been written, the royals of Monaco have great wealth and Rainer could easily have bought many fabulous pieces of jewelry for Grace especially some of the royal jewels on auction at Christie's or Sotheby's. It does make me wonder if some of the beautiful jewelry Charlene wears are loans or if they were bought by Albert? Of course, we never know unless info as such is released such as the loans Grace wore.

By my understanding the Prince purchased a diamond aigrette at the jeweller Lorenz Bšumer and the Ocean Collier/Diadem at Van Cleef & Arpels. The Princess has worn the Bšumer Aigrette at her wedding gala: picture. A great success in my opinion.

The Van Cleef & Arpels collier/diadem is not the easiest to wear due to the V-shaped design which is perfect for a collier but a bit strange-looking as diadem: picture.

My guess is that we do not see these two diadems too often because of a lack of events for which these are required. Then the Princess got (?) / loaned (?) a collier from Tabbah. Like the Bšumer and the Van Cleef & Arpels pieces, also this one has an unusual design and not the easiest to wear either: picture.

So it looks like Prince Albert is very generous to his spouse anyway.

I agree that the Van Cleef and Arpels "Ocean" diadem/necklace and the Tabbah necklace are stunning pieces, but are also difficult pieces to wear. Charlene is lucky that she can carry off wearing these jewels. She has a long neck and is tall so the large pieces are in proportion in comparison to a smaller stature woman such as Grand Duchess Maria Teresa. The Tabbah piece she could not carry off at all as compared to Charlene. I'm the same height as the Grand Duchess and like her, have a short neck and no way I could I carry off a piece like that. However, Royal women can wear whatever they like in jewelry whether it's a bad fit or not. They don't or shouldn't go by my opinion.

I think Albert felt the need to "compensate" for the lack of jewellery and started in a perfectly logical way, with tiaras. IMHO Charlene is not a big "bling" woman which could account for us not seeing even the little that Grace owned. But how fortunate that she discovered . . . earrings! Better yet, she has the neck to wear them and the maturity to rock them.

With regard to Prince Rainier's wealth, although he was immensely wealthy when he died, I believe that when he inherited the throne of Monaco in 1949 the principality and his family were near bankruptcy.

In those difficult post war years few came to play at the Casino, Monaco's prime source of income. Rainier immediately started to try to revive his country as a glamorous locale. In this he was helped by Aristotle Onassis, with whom he later parted ways, and of course his marriage to Grace Kelly in the 1950's helped too.

However, I have read that Rainier did not manage to put the business affairs of his country on an even keel until the mid 1960's. If Monaco was still struggling economically until then and even afterwards, there may not have been spare money to buy expensive jewellery on the world markets, especially tiaras.

After that time and until her death perhaps Princess Grace became accustomed to borrowing pieces from well known jewellers.

The Royal Order of Sartorial Splendor: Tiara Thursday: Some of Grace's Tiaras

I don't like any of these tiaras here. I find many of these quite awful. I find Josephine's tiara grand but I don't like the shape.
