A little request I hope someone can help with! Does anyone happen to have an HQ picture of Princess Michael's bow brooch/pearl necklace? It's two diamond brooches with three strands of pearls between them? I want to have the piece copied so I need a nice big shot of it if possible. Thanks!

That's the one! Thanks Warren! I've no idea of the history of the piece but I do know that it's my favourite jewel Princess Michael owns. And she wears it so well!

It's The Duchess of Kent Tiara, also known as The Diamond Pearl Festoon Tiara.
According to Geoffrey Munn (a British jewellery specialist and writer), the tiara was probably made in England, around 1900s.
It was once a favourite of Princess Marina and is now in possession of Princess Michael of Kent. Princess Alexandra has worn this tiara on several occasions as well.

Thanks for posting those excellent pics. I didn't know that Alexandra has ever worn the festoon tiara. Do you know when this picture was taken?
On the pic from Munn the tiara has a row of pearls at the base. But on the older portraits there are collet diamonds at the base. I wonder if they still own the collet diamonds.

They most certainly do, but subject to a "remix".

Of course! I should have thought of that concoction.
It would be nice if she put it back on the festoon tiara from time to time. The pearls are nice at the base, but diversity is even better, imho.

The picture was taken in October of 1960, when Princess Alexandra acted as the Queen's official representative during Nigerian Independence celebrations.
Incidentally, the visit was a true feast tiara-wise: Alexandra wore not one but at least 4 different tiaras.
- The Diamond Pearl Festoon tiara
- The Flower tiara
- Pearl Swirl tiara
- A tiara/circlet I don't recognize

I think that the third pic is also the Flower tiara (and not the Pearl Swirl).
In the last picture I believe she wears the small bandeau which Queen Mary wore with emerald spikes, and which was later worn by the current Duchess of Kent at her wedding. This pic of Princess Alexandra could even be at the same event as yours.

Your last is definitely from the same event (in other close ups, she is wearing the same jewellery as in your picture), so thanks a lot for identifying the bandeau.
The third tiara could be the Flower one too; however, in pictures from other angles I've seen, it looks more like the Pearl Swirl. I wish I had better pictures for proper identification.

It looks as if she is wearing the same dress, necklace and clutch on both photos. And she is accompanied by the same gentleman in the black kaftan and white turban. That's why I believe that both photos are from the same event.

Not the same diamonds, these ones come from a necklace belonging to Marina seperate from the tiara.

Marina Duchess of Kent with a pair of sapphire brooches
I was going through an old book on Marina Duchess of Kent and found this photo of her on Alexandra Rose Day 22nd May 1946 wearing two sapphire flower brooches. She must have given one to the Queen Mother whom we have seen wearing it often. Wonder what happened to the other one.
