I actually love the emerald tiara! It has such a lovely retro feel, like the circlet tiaras often do!!!

Jewels of the Spanish Aristocracy

I hope that I did not overlook an existing thread, but I couldn't find a jewellery thread for the Spanish aristocrats, so I opened a new one.

The fact that there is now a new duke of Medinaceli, Marco of Hohenlohe-Langenburg y Medina, inspired me to look again into their family tiaras.

On the Foro Dinastias I found this picture of a bride with what looked like the tiara of the late Duchess of Medinaceli. http://postimg.org/image/97xy1sgif/

The text said, that it was Flavia of Hohenlohe y Medina, sister of Marco of Hohenlohe.

But I always thought that this was a wedding pic of Flavia: http://postimg.org/image/o6s0sdrgt/

Can anyone here identify these two ladies? Which one is the real Flavia? And might the other bride be Sandra Schmidt-Polex, ex-wife of the new duke of Medinaceli?

Can you tell me the name of this tiara? This is one outstanding tiara, I used to be on *Tiara a Day* until they left and have never seen this one. Would this still be in the family today of Queen Fabiola? I would love to see this one on a queen's head........really beautiful and has lots of bling/diamonds.

Imo, it would be a good idea to merge the two threads. The Alba's thread doesn't have much traffic anyway, and the Alba jewels really fit into this topic.

Yes, that must be the same tiara. Anfortunately, it was auctioned by Sotheby's some years ago. But I couldn't find the exact date of the sale.

So far I could never find any additional information on this tiara.
This is Isabela Escrivá de Romaní y de Miguel, a grand-daughter of Fabiola's sister Maria de las Nieves. But I don't think that the tiaras really match.

This design was very often used for Spanish tiaras, because the strawberry leafs were a heraldic symbol associated with dukes, marquesses and counts.

Eg. the Duchess of Alba has a strawberry leaf tiara as well. The Medinaceli family prabably even had two. One was sold to General Franco and given to Queen Fabiola as a wedding present. The other one was worn by Laura Vecino when she married the late Duchess' grandson Rafael Medina.

The Duchess of Alba probably still has the finest collection of jewels among the Spanish Nobility, its a pity that we only really ever to see the jewels of the nobility at weddings!

her beautiful wedding tiara, which her daughter also wore in hers, is the tiara of her ancestor Eugenia de Montijo, Empress Eugenia of France. it's a lovely piece indeed.

her daughters in law, Maria Hohenlohe and Matilde Solis, however, wore the russian tiara, of the Hijar house. this tiara has however been reportedly sold by the family. Maria Hohenlohe, reportedly, refused to wear the tiara (which was large and not very attractive), but in the end wore it at her wedding.

the tiara, on matilde:

genoveva casanova, also daughter in law of the late duchess, wore a smaller tiara, which is actually the wedding tiara cayetana and eugenia wore, the Eugenia de Montijo tiara, although simplified:

she also owned these beautiful emeralds, also from queen eugenia:

I have never seen a wedding picture of her son Jacobo. I wonder if an grand jewels had been used for his first wedding.

Also it is disappointing that the late Duchess did not lend a tiara for the weddings of her grandchildren. Or maybe those brides preferred to go tiara-less?
