On the other thread, CP Victoria's jewellery part II, Josefine asked information concerning a diamond riviere necklace. I've lost count of the number of the different collet necklaces of the Bernadotte's but this particular necklace, Josefine pointed out, consists of quite large, graduated diamonds and can be worn with a pendant (usually the pear shaped diamond). It's said to have belonged to Queen Victoria's mother, the Grand Duchess Louise of Baden.
This picture from Danjel's site shows that there must be several collet neckaces of different lenghts. Part of them might be possible to shorten or lenghten or combine together... Also the pear shaped diamond can be seen on the shortest necklace. http://groups.msn.com/isapi/fetch.dl...Rz7BjKGJD5mXMo Last edited by Josefine; 01-29-2005 at 03:57 PM. |

Josefine showed on another a picture the agraffe with a blue ribbon bow showing a miniature portrait of the King which Crown Princess Victoria as well as other royal ladies wear on gala occasions. Josefine asked also on what kind of surface the miniature is painted. I remember reading just awhile ago that today the miniature is a photo, not a miniature painting.
The other important ladies of the court don't wear a miniature portrait but their master's or mistress' cipher which consist of a gilded monogram topped with a crown and a blue ribbon bow. When a lady-in-waiting retires or marries or is of a higher rank she might get a special cipher made of white gold and set with diamonds. This ornament is worn as a piece of jewelry also in private. |
