Baden Fringe Tiara

State Visit from Luxembourg

Victoria with Fringe Tiara

I don't really like when Victoria wears the Tiara that "high". I like it better when she wears it like this: http://www.ppe-agency.com/500px/May2007/07051172.jpg
What do you think?

I think that her look for the visit of Luxembourg was quite sophisticated. (Not wild about the halter gown, but we're talking jewels).

I do love that last pic you posted, though, Her_Majesty. The princess looks very much like her mother, sometimes.

This drop pearl bow brooch dates back to Queen Viktoria, née of Baden (1862-1930).
Queen Silvia wears it frequently as well.

Baden Fringe Tiara - worn during the State Visit from Greece

I simply love Victoria hairdo; but I don't like the way the Tiara was placed on her head.

You dislike it? How very polite and restrained of you.

Dislike it! I loath, dispise and detest the wretched thing! It has all the appeal of yesterday's cold left-over tapioca pudding.

I am afraid I have hated that tiara since the first time I saw CP Victoria wear it. I have seen another tiara like this and the description said that it was made out of buttons worn by an ancestor, I don´t know if this is the case with this tiara. Men used to wear these big diamond buttons as an ornament (when they could afford it).
Whenever I look at this one I think of it as the button tiara. Probably I have got it completely wrong but there is no way I can like this awful tiara.

The buttons were from the uniform of one of the Bernadotte ancestors. I'll have to do a little research to tell you exactly who, but I think it was a General of Napoleon's. The ten diamond encrused buttons from his dress uniform were used to make the four button and six button "jeep" tiaras, so they do have historical significance to the Swedish Royal Family, though most of us truly dislike them.

Found it! Here is the link that tells the history of the 2 tiaras.

Thanks LadyC. So what I thought of as a button tiara IS a button tiara. I think it should go back to buttons. Rather nice to think of its history but it is truly ugly.

No argument from me on that score Menarue! I don't like either of the button tiaras but the history is interesting.

As a matter of fact, the 'buttons' of the tiaras are even older than stated in the link.
They are originally not buttons but rosettes, first set in the Crown of Swedish King Erik XIV (1533 - 1577). After this Crown was remodeled, the rosettes were worn as diamond flower hair ornaments before the first Bernadotte King on the throne turned some of the rosettes into buttons of his gala unform.
The rosettes were first put on a tiara frame in the 1960s to accomodate the greater need of 'lesser' tiaras for the present King's four sisters. They were obviously designed to complement the 60's short but very voluminous, 'bouffant' hairdos.
Since there is no historic significance to their setting at all, only to the rosettes themselves, I do hope that they might be re-assembled in a nicer setting one day.

Thatis very interesting Boris. Actually as far as Princess Lilian(ne) is concerned, she looks good in everything. A very beautiful young lady and now a very beautiful elderly lady.
In the famous portrait of the Empress Elizabeth, (Sissi) she wore a set of stars, I wonder if they started off as buttons too.

Yes Victoria wore the 4-button tiara unfortunatly, but she wore it quite good this time, one of the best she ever has i think.
