This is a case of lost in translation from Danish to English.

The word used is 'dragtsmykker' (two words: dragt and smykker) and literal translation is 'costume jewels' but the word 'dragt' means 'court dress or national costume'. So these brooches should be referred to as brooches worn with court dress or national costume.

Very confusing indeed because in English costume jewels means not 'real gemstones' so we must use the Danish meaning in this case.

So far she wore the Ruby Tiara 7 times and her wedding Tiara 8 times (once as a necklace).

Thank you for the beautiful collection, Her Majesty. My favourite tiara on Mary is the Ruby tiara. I think it's the best look on her.

Actually I think her wedding tiara looks much better worn as a necklace then as a tiara.

Well, really good hairdo, tiara wear not to high and not to low and everything should be all right.

Thanks for sharing

The nice thing abou the wedding tiara is it is a necklace and a tiara. You get use out of it. The ruby parure is useful b/c of all the pieces. But it is historical and heavy (weight), I'm sure the wedding one is a bit more easy to use and wear.

I really loved these two or more row necklaces she used to wear a lot at the beginning of her new "job" as crown princess. They looked so lovely on her as they matched with the outfits very well. Mary's choice of jewellery is really awsome. I just wish that the Queen would let her wear some other tiaras than the two she has. It would be simply lovely to see her wearing them.

I too wish she wore some of the necklaces from her earlier days as CP. But i know a few of them were loans. i would love to see the floating pearl necklace as I like to call it, that she wore to her first engagement as well as her visit with the Queen, Fred, and Henrik to Aros art museum.

I think it's the brim of Frederik's hat which 'cuts off' the tiara in the picture

Wow! That's a relief.
I was envisioning 2" Headlines reading "Mary's Desiree Collapses!" There's something rotten in the State of Denmark!!!!! Secret Service Called in to find Saboteur! I was using my sister's wee laptop when I looked at it and thought OMG!
Since my job entails looking at a screen all day I think it's been and way too much !

The brooch she wore in NYC was seen on Sept. 3, 2004 when F&M visited Legoland. It is different from the YSL heart brooch. To see more photos from Legoland and the NYC brooch, see post #69 on this link:
