Regarding the tiara that Sophie wore at the Danish wedding and the speculation whether it was a heirloom from Princess Alice of Greece, I managed to find a close up from Princess Alice's tiara and I do think that they are suspiciously alike (from Filckr) :

.

This photo is a montage, a very good one but still a photo-montage. It has tricked me once, too!

Lady Karen, did you know Prince Edward designed the Countess of Wessex cross necklace she wore on her wedding day? Maybe he design this necklace too. The large stone in the middle looks like the color of Sophie's eyes.
Hi Georgiea!

Yes, I remember one of the television announcers at their wedding saying that the necklace was a wedding gift from Prince Edward that he designed.

I might be ignorant but I thought that the aquamarine tiara is a historic piece - not a contemporary design.
Could someone help here with more information?
Thx

It's a new design by Collins and Sons, the new crown jewellers. See post #127 on this thread.

Does anybody recognise the tiara Sophie wore to the Swedish wedding? I think this is the one that was worn to the Danish wedding as well. AFAIK it is not her wedding tiara.

Also, does anybody recognise the diamond necklace Sophie is wearing?

The necklace is owned by QEII...thought to be a gift from one of the Middle Eastern royal family I think but, really, a mystery. I saw picture in one of the QE2 jewellery threads her at TRFs. I assume it is on loan to the Countess for the occasion. Warren may know exactly which one it is...

The tiara is her wedding tiara.

I believe it's her wedding tiara.

It is her wedding tiara. And funny enough, Victoria's wedding day was Sophie and Edward's 11th Anniversary! How wonderful three royal couples now share the same wedding anniversary. Those two, Victoria and Daniel, and her parents!

I believe the necklace is on loan from the Queen... I have seen it on her before.

You are all correct, it is Sophie's own wedding tiara. I had not seen pictures of it for some time, and had forgotten what it looked like.
The necklace looks lovely, and is the first serious diamond necklace that I have seen on Sophie. If this indeed is a long term loan, I am sure it will be used quite a lot by Sophie.

It's actually a little different around the neck. Maybe its been re-designed.

maybe because it sits in a different position; HM and Sophie's necks are quite different.

Okay, the Swedish wedding necklace has to be a loan from the Queen. I was sure I saw Diana wearing that same necklace early in her marriage, but it was the King Kahlid of Saudia Arabia Necklace. Not the same necklace.

Sophie's necklace looks similar to the necklace of QEII but there are differences:
1. The fringes on Sophie's necklace are closer together and this has nothing to do with angle or neck size.
2. Towards the side where the fringes end, the design is different. QEII's necklace has larger diamonds while Sophie's is smaller and the fringes continue further back on QEII's necklace.

It is so close in design, perhaps another Harry Winston necklace. I can't imagine QEII altering the King Khalid necklace because she usually wears this when any Saudi Arabian royal visits England.

I think there are more diamonds on the one Sophie wears.

Whatever the necklace is, and wherever it came from, it was lovely, and Sophie looked really lovely in it. i'd like to see her wear it again. At Prince Albert's wedding! With the aquamarine tiara.
