Funerals of King Pavlos and Queen Frederika

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Thanks for the photos, she was the mother of Duke Edinburg

The funeral of Queen Frederica was a very very private affair particularly due to the tension. No Greek or foreign dignitaries except for immediate family members (including King Juan Carlos, of course) attended the ceremony in Tatoi. All above statements are totally inaccurate. The airplane carrying the coffin and family members took off from Madrid,Spain and landed in the military airfield of Tatoi, just outside Athens. A few thousand royalists managed to get close, despite tight police measures. The family departed immediately after the interment.

Yesterday marked the 29th Anniversary of Her Majesty's death, are there any photo's of her Funeral ?

I ve only seen two photos of the funeral . They are on the thread about the funerals of king paul and queen frederika. I always found it strange that even these two photos existed. I mean the family has fought very hard to get permission to bury her in Tatoi and they were hardly any guests. How on earth a photographer was allowed in ?

After the funeral of Queen Frederica supposedly King Juan Carlos said .. " this is the most uncivilized funeral i have ever attended", some royalists tried to storm into Tatoi and the police were trying to keep them out of the area , it must have been a fiasco , my grand mother whose father in law was connected to the Greek Royal Family was not given permission by the then Premier Karamanlis to attend the funeral , even then i had thought .. how "absolut ridiculous" . Recent photos i have seen of the Tatoi cemetery have me absolut "disgusted" , from every point of view -

It is possible that King Juan Carlos said it ,..... When Queen Frederika died the next day, King Constantine processed the documents of repatriation of the body through embassy.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Misotakis, he authorized it, without problem .. King Constantine received the document, no problem ...... The next day, without a word, the Foreign Minister said that the documents were canceled and started to put all kinds of obstacles to the conclusion of the funeral,.. Ambassador of Spain in Greece, I think his surname was Lezcano came to describe as shameful attitude of the Greek government ... King Juan Carlos had to travel on a plane different from the rest of the royal family. In the end, he authorize to the Royal Family stay in Greece from the sun would come out until nightfall .
The day before, the Greek Public Order Minister issued an order reminding the media that any information released about the funeral could be considered public order offense.

This picture was when they arrived to Tatoi militar airport.

Mr. Karamanlis was not prime-minister at the time. It was Mr. George Rallis.

This Day on 06 February 1981 died Queen Frederica. Some pictures from Queen and from the funeral.

... "We returned Barefoot the Taj Mahal, one alongside the other. "We will build a monument like this when I die?" I asked joking Pavlo"

"Certainly not. As beautiful though is this monument, we we intend to stay under the open sky, in Tatoi, to enable the deer to walk over us and wildflowers n bloom in the spring. " "I agree," I replied ...

In the photo of the family kneeling at the graveside young Prince Felipe (now king) of Spain is the image of his nephew Felipe de Marichalar.

:previous: Indeed!!! When i post this picture I thought in 1981 or 2011?
The similarity is amazing!

The Greece of that time is unrecognizeable with the Greece of today... No way that a PM Tsipras would ever wear a jacquet and tie!

What a solemn and beautiful video, An Ard Ri - thank you. It is this sort of richly meaningful contribution that keeps me coming back to this forum! :flowers:

The main reason Karamanlis was reluctant for Freddy's funeral to take place in Greece was not about a fear of an upsurge of monarchist sentiment, the real concern was that A-Pap would try and exploit it as an election issue. Indeed, in October that year PASOK won the election - 1981 was also the year of Greece's entry into the EEC and many feared that a PASOK victory would put a stop to it.* Initially K vetoed the idea for the above reasons, and in the context of the time it was based on a perfectly legit desire to avoid any potential disorder. It was when King Juan Carlos requested permission that K's hand was forced on the subject and only said yes to avoid an international incident - something he resented greatly.

To put this in perspective, Prince Peter had died a year earlier and was eventually buried in Denmark when permission could not be secured for burial at Tatoi, meaning that his body was left in the morgue for a month before a burial could be arranged.

*In the end they did not.

It is shocking how Tatoi looks. Other former monarchies at least preserve their historic patrimonium. Yes, Greece was near bankruptcy in the 2008-2015 crisis but the neglect of Tatoi was already before the country organized the billions costing Olympic Games.

I hope Tatoi can be restored.

Was it an open funeral for Queen Federica?? Strange.
no i do not remember them ever opening the casket even for a last look
it had been flown in and they had been given so many hours to have the funeral and leave as though criminals
what they did to the royals then was illegal
coffin was closed

Tatoi Palae looks at the end of th Monarchy.
Is it renovated now ?
