Why didn't she become Queen? :ermm:

I think she died before her husband Gustaf VI Adolf became King. He later married Lady Louise Mountbatten, I believe.

on 28th february its were 100 uears since prince bertil was born

That is correct! They married in december 1976, about six months after Carl Gustaf ´s and Silvia´s wedding. Maybe they knew that Silvia was pregnant at that time, so that they could hope for an heir...

HM The King Allowed his Own marriage to a commoner, Prince Bertil wasn't allowed to marry by his father HM. King Gusav Adolf bc as stated he would have lost his royal titles and place in line of succession and become Count of Wisborg as with all other previous Swedish Princes. Due to his sense of Duty and Loytaly to his country and the Crown, Prince Bertil and Princess Lillian chose to wait until King Carl Gustav himself had married, and he then gave permission for them to marry.

:flowers: Lovely portrait of such a wonderful couple.

I find myself hoping if either Vic or Sofia has a son, one names it Bertil. But I have a feeling I will have to settle for a middle name if that.

About prince Bertil's will in Aftonbladet, March 1999.

Prince Bertil left close to 90 million SEK. The royal children inherit five million SEK. Each.
The king gets Villa Mirage, Prince Bertils and Lillan's beloved home on the French Riviera.
Aftonbladet can today reveal the content of Prince Bertil's will. Prince Bertil died on January 5, 1997. Yesterday, after just over two years, the estate inventory was completed.
- It has taken a little longer than usual, because the French authorities have also been involved, said lawyer Eric Ager..
Prince Bertil was a very rich man. The worth of the estate is SEK 89,980,486 and 14 öre.
Except for some heirlooms the Prince has bequeathed to the king and other relatives, Prince Lilian inherits everything except Solbacken at Djurgården, which is being left to Prince Carl Philip, "however, with my wife's life-time right of use".
Even before, it has become clear that Princess Lilian did not want to keep the beautiful house Villa Mirage on the French Riviera. The villa was Lilian and Prince Bertil's common summer paradise for 51 years.
Princess Lilian does not want to live alone in the house, instead, she leaves it to the king, with all the goods and chattels. In addition, she abstains from SEK 15 million in cash, which is divided equally between Crown Princess Victoria, Prince Carl Philip and Princess Madeleine.
The king inherits (except Villa Mirage): A glassware with Carl XIII's crowned cipher, paintings of prince Bertil's mother crown princess Margaretha and his father Gustaf VI Adolf. In addition, portrait of Prince Bertil and Lilian to be hanged at the Palace after Princess Lilian died.
Princesses Margaretha, Birgitta, Désirée and Christina inherit paintings painted by Prince Eugén, Isaac Grünewald and Prince Bertil's mother.
The estate inventory describes many objects.
The value of oil paintings by Prince Eugen, Helmer Osslund, Olle Olson Hagalund is estimated at SEK 2,000-3,000.
A five-row collier with sapphires, emeralds, rubies and brilliants: SEK 10,000.
A ladies watch in gold from the exclusive manufacturer Piaget: SEK 2,000.
Villa Solbacken is valued at 3.3 million, the apartment in London for just over one million and Villa Mirage to close to nine million. Prince Bertil was known as the Motor Prince. Gunnar Elmgren at Stockholm Chamber of Commerce estimates that the prince's light blue Porsche 911 Carrera is worth a maximum of SEK 200,000.

Svensk Damtidning has visited Sainte Maxime and had an article "In prince Bertil and Lilian's footsteps" at their last week's issue.

La Colombe d'Or is one of the restaurants Bertil and Lilian used to go and is owned still by the members of the same family than then. Bertil and Lilian drove there and ordered calf liver or lamb fillet and enjoyed sitting out on the colourful yard. Many of those restaurants they visited don't anymore exist. Bertil and Lilian were regular guests at Le Club 55 in Ramatuelle. Bertil played boules/petanque every day with men from the city, he drove there from Villa Mirage with his minimoto, tells Bertil's friend. The place Bertil played boules is named "Boulodrome Prince Bertil". Bertil liked also to play golf at Club Golf Mougins. Lilian spent then time with her friends. She liked to visit artist Arman and his american wife Corice at their home in Vence.

That cannot be true. The SEK did not change the exchange rate much to the EUR. According to this Villa Mirage would have been worth not even 1 Million EUR - even in 1999 that was not reasonable.

Lovely photos, many of which I had not seen before / forgotten. Thanks for posting the link.

Prince Bertil and princess Lilian had in addition to their home Villa Solbacken and Villa Mirage in France, also a summer house in Sweden, in Tylösand. The villa was built in 1954 and funded by a collection for Prince Bertil's 40th birthday and was owned by a foundation with the governor of Halland as chairman. According to the regulations of the foundation, the Duke and Duchess of Halland were allowed to live there for as long as they lived. After Bertil's death the villa was sold.

The Lillian and Bertil story is a great story, and a great lesson to us all about duty, perseverence and personal sacrifice. It is not just for the younger generation of royals to draw inspiration from it (not looking across the pond at anybody in particular), but there is a lot of us common folk can learn from it.
