Years later Lennart wrote about his despair because his grandmother had him wearing sailor suits years after he should have been allowed to start wearing suits.

When did boys typically start wearing suits in Lennart's day?

That's quite the amount of glitter.

-It's a sweet picture.
-Poor Edmund, and poor CG. This must be one of the only ways he knew his father.
-I wonder if CG has his grandfather and great-grandfather's longevity genes...?

Victoria participated yesterday in the celebration of Gothenburg's 400th anniversary. The Royal Court published at its Facebook photos from Bernadotte Library's files, king Gustaf V visiting the 300th anniversary and the Anniversary Exhibition in Gothenburg. Even then anniversary of the city was also moved forward and took place in 1923.

King Carl XVI Gustaf later said that he had been in the lap of someone, who had been in the lap of Napoleon's first fiancée.
(Gustaf V's great-grandmother Désirée had indeed been engaged to Napoleon.)
That makes you feel how far back the Bernadotte dynasty goes...

Apparently there was a movie made about Kurt Haijby and his relationship with Gustav and the consequences.
(The trailer contains some brief nudity so I'll leave the link like this.)

I wonder how it was received in Sweden?

King Gustaf V of Sweden on a state visit to Finland in 1936:

Actually, I don't believe that it would be considered as scandalous as it was back in the '50s.

I think either the blackmail or some of Haijby's subsequent treatment or the strong evidence Gustav seems to have propositioned a lot of men, including people in the government, still might not go over great. Although today a king might have more sense than to hit on the prime minister, back then he still had actual power.

Someone can say me what's the cause of the death of Viktoria?

There are rumours about the existence of a photo of Queen Desirée holding the infant Gustav V after his christening. I've read people say on social media that they saw it at an exhibition, but have never been able to find the photo itself or any other confirmation that it exists.

From all I’ve read I believe Viktoria had poor health for much of her life, including weak lungs, which the winters in Scandinavia didn’t help. As a result she spent months each year at her mansion on Capri. She probably died of a lung condition as a result of pneumonia as many elderly people do.

I never realized that Desiree had lived long enough to meet her great-great-grandson, but she did. Wow!

It's remarkable to think that a man who knew Queen Margrethe, King Carl Gustav, their siblings, and others still alive today also met Napoleon's contemporaries.

Gustav was her great-grandson (in the same way he's CG's great-grandfather); Karl XV and Oscar II were her grandsons. Still a very long stretch of a few lifetimes.

Karl XV once said about his old and diminutive grandmother that "Granny will never die. She'll just keep on getting smaller until we can't see her anymore".

That's pretty funny. ? So she didn't quite make 90, but she would seem to be the source of the "immortal Bernadotte" genes, right? Unless it was Josefina?

...Perhaps Karl shouldn't have joked about his grandmother, after all, since he definitely did not inherit them.

And just to put this back on-topic, what did Gustav think about his father and uncle not getting along?
