Karl XII (1682-1718)

Riksmarskalksämbetet (and Riksantikvarieämbeter, Statens Fastighetsverk and Länsstyrelsen in Stockholms län) said Yes to open Karl XII tomb again. Scientists want to find out who killed him, once for all - Norwegian bullet or Swedish? Last time the tomb was open was in 1917
He looked like this, 199 years after his death:

This is his death mask: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_LjM_M_LOx4.../s1600/013.jpg

And this is the cloths he was wearing when he died at Fredrikshald nov 30 1718. Its possible to watch it at Livrustkammaren at the royal palace, Sthlm (notice the mud...): http://japetus.files.wordpress.com/2...lunirock01.jpg

And when he was alive he was painted like this by Axel Sparre:http://www.teachersparadise.com/ency...xel_sparre.jpg

How interesting. Do they scientists have to get permission from the monarchy to open up the sarcophagus again?

Riksmarskalksämbetet is a part of the royal court:

Riksmarskalksämbetet - Kungahuset [NS4 version]

and according to Dagens Nyheter they agree with the opening but want "the last word" as I understand it...Karl XII:s grav får öppnas igen - DN.se

Ahh thank you for the translation.
Why open it after so long?
Why not early?

This is the last resting place for Karl XIIs dog Pompe...
http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_z-20cUoxjX...0/IMG_1748.JPG

Israel Holmström wrote a poem about Pompe:

Pompe Kungens trogne dräng
sov var natt i herrens säng.
Sist av år och resor trötter
led han av vid kungens fötter.
Mången stolt och fager mö
önskar sig som Pompe leva.
Tusen hjältar eftersträva
att få som Pompe dö

(use Google translation to translate :-)
