You are correct I should not have used Humeras name in my post, no matter how frustrated I am/was. Humera I apologize to you for that. But I find it very frustrating to be told that the "old timers" are complaining that they have to read the same questions over and over. Since new people are finding this forum everyday, answering questions would make a new comer happier than being told to go through 14 threads to see if the answer can be found in one of those post. Again I apologize Humera.

So in the end I still believe it is a no win situation for either side.

Well, we are more than happy to listen if you have any suggestions. We do have to make the forum habitable for both the new and old members. And just like it is not fun for the new members to have to plow through 14 threads to find something, nor is it fun for the old members to have to do the same.

If you have any suggestions to help us remedy this situation we would love to hear them. We are working on FAQs for many threads, but anything else you can suggest would be appreciated.

It isn't so much that they're frustrated with having to read the same thing over and over, because we know new people are joining all the time, and it's good for the forum to have interested newcomers. It's more a case that they get frustrated with having to write answers to questions they've already answered several times.

If you ever want to search on a word string or more than one word at a time, which the internal search engine really isn't very good at, you can use Google Advanced Search and specify that it search only at TRF. You'll usually get an awful lot more hits with a Google Advanced Search than you will with the regular search feature here.

This is what the Advanced Search page looks like

Google Advanced Search

You get to it by clicking the Advanced Search button just to the right of the seach box on the Google main page. Just type theroyalforums.com into the Domain box and type your search string into the search box, and it'll give you results for that search string at TRF. It's fairly useful for doing things like searching on the term "Queen Noor" since the vbulletin search engine will look for the words Queen and Noor separately, and if you only search on Noor you'll get results for Princess Noor as well. Using the Google search will get round that problem.

No harm done mrsbugman. Thanks for your apology. The frustration felt by newcomers trying to find stuff here is very real and its the source of many conversations among the staff.

Hopefully we will come up with a better solution. I truly believe the FAQ threads will be a great source for newcomers; its a shame that they take so much effort to put together.

So my offer still stands to you and to any other member. If you want to volunteer in one of your favorite forums to help the mods find answers to the most common questions newcomers would have, I'm sure any of them would appreciate the help.

And we always appreciate the feedback both positive and negative we get from members and suggestions for improvement. We may not be able to implement everything as quickly as we would like to because we are a volunteer organization with other jobs and families, etc. but we do keep track and try to implement as many good solutions as we can.

Cheers.

Elspeth, can we volunteer you to write a tutorial on the Advanced Google Search?

OK now I'm going to run and hide!

Well, the easiest way to do a Google advanced search for a word string at just one website is probably to just use the regular Google search, but instead of simply entering "Queen Noor" which will get you results on Queen Noor from anywhere on the internet, you enter "Queen Noor" site:theroyalforums.com which will get you results on Queen Noor anywhere at TRF but not other sites.

Whenever you want to do a Google search on a word or word string at a particular website, just write site:particularwebsite.com after the search string in a normal Google search, and it'll do the trick. This is basically the same as going to Google Advanced Search and entering particularwebsite.com in the Domain field.

You can come out from under that chair now...

Ladies and Gentlemen, Mrsbugman here again. I really want to apologize for starting what seams to have turned into a tutorial of how to look up information on other websites. This is a perfect example of not reacting out of anger or frustration. And am sorry for letting my frustration start this whole mess. But I see a lot of the same names over and over - so maybe some of you can help by becoming one of the new moderators. Some of the post I read are well thought out, and knowledgeable. You would be great at being a moderator.....

LOL, its a perfect case of being careful of what you wish for, mrsbugman.

Now a lot of us that participated to this thread are already moderators but we are always looking for volunteers and I think there is a thread around here where members can volunteer for a mod position.

Cheers.

Ys, Ysbel, Oh Most Omnipotent and Radiant, Majestic and Awesome, even ONE so exaulted as Your Most Exaulted SELF should be careful about what you wish for. You could have me as a moderator and then there would be a revolution to end all cyberspace revolutions. If certain people here get irritated by the various moderators and members they ain't seen nottin yet. I would irritate and enrage beyond belief. They would scatter bits and pieces of me all over the landscape and look back to this present situation as a golden age, the good old days. As a social secretary-well I give mean parties and dinner parties and probably one of the very, very few Americans you have ever heard of who gives tea parties as well. I have never given a chocolate party, oddly enough, although I did get a group of people together and have a desert party one time which had lots of chocolate in it along with some lovely wines. Cheers.

Oh Most Terrifying and AweInspiring SHE WHO MUST BE OBEYED, I do not know what I have done, Please be Merciful and Forgive Me, but I have done something AGAIN. SOB. Bloody I understand. In British, ie real, English it is an awful word that is not used except under very special circumstances to indicate: We are not Amused. FLaming, well, how do you approach these moderators except with abject groveling, but Ada...I have not a clue. Kindly explain. All I can think of: Ada in American, ie unreal English, means Americans with disability act, which is not what I think you have in mind????? Cheers.

Elspeth, please enlighten those of us whom are obviously not British what the devil Ada..... is? Please bear in mind that curiousity killed the ----

Cat

Perhaps something akin to "going all the way round by Laura's house" when describing taking the long route to get somewhere?

Found this :

"Ada : noun.
A high-level computer programming language used esp. in real-time computerized control systems, e.g., for aircraft navigation."

Are you a computer Thomas ?!

Bloody Ada, flaming Ada, and bloody Nora are just exclamations of the British persuasion. The identities of Ada and Nora are lost in the mists of whatever.
