It is May 1st, and time for a new TRF Newsletter. This month, we've ended up putting the focus on some of the activities that go on here at The Royal Forums that members can get involved with. There is always posting pictures or information, and discussing them, but now you also have the option of talking to other posters "live" via the Chat function, or read books with other literature lovers in the Royal Book Club. For more information, look below.

We're looking forward to weddings in Denmark and the UK, various state visits, National day celebrations in Norway on the royal watching side of things.

We hope to see you participating,

The Newsletter team.

The Royal Articles is an offshoot of The Royal Forums. We have a lot of very knowledgeable members, some of whom have written articles on royalty-related topics of interest to them, and we are proud to share those articles. If you are a writer at heart and want to participate in and contribute to this venture, you can send a private message to any of the admins. Guideline for submission can be found here.

You can find the article-site here: The Royal Articles with many interesting articles already.

We are always looking for new articles. If anyone would like to write an article for us, please contact Mandy, Elspeth, or Marengo to talk about your ideas. We also have a series of articles under way on the life and lifestyle of some of the crown princesses, which will be written by teams of authors. If you don't feel that you want to write an entire article but would be interested in writing some sections of an article about the lifestyle of your favourite princess, please contact Marengo or Elspeth. The range of topics we're hoping to cover for each princess is as follows:

  • Style and fashion (formal and informal, to include jewellery, makeup, hairstyles, etc, as well as clothes; should include fashion development from before the wedding - or since leaving school for those who were born royal - to the present; emphasis will be different for male royals since we probably don't want to know about makeup and jewellery!)
  • Education and work experience
  • Home and family life (can include a little bit of background of the birth family as well as family lifestyle as a royal, but it should concentrate on the latter)
  • Official duties (from the viewpoint of showing what sort of things they're interested in and how they go about their official life)
  • Patronages and charities (same viewpoint as above)
  • Hobbies, pastimes, and cultural interests
  • Summary of overall development since joining the royal family (or since leaving school, for those who were born royal)
and at the moment we're hoping to find authors for articles on Princesses Mary, Maxima, Letizia, Mathilde-Mette-Marit, Masako, Lalla Salma, Countess Alexandra, Grand Duchess Maria Teresa, and Queens Rania and Noor. If you're interested in writing about a princess or queen who isn't on the list, please let us know.

We're having problems obtaining permission from photo agencies to use commercial photos for our articles. If any of our members have taken photos of royal people or places and would be willing to give us permission to use their photos in our articles, please contact Mandy, Elspeth, or TheTruth.

pictureofthemonth.gif

Picture of the Month is a monthly poll, where one votes on the best picture from many of the royal houses in the previous month. At the end of the year, the winning pictures are put up against each other in a poll to find the best picture overall. http://www.theroyalforums.com/forums/f86/picture-year-2006-a-11944.html, and http://www.theroyalforums.com/forums/f86/2007-picture-year-15845.html are the polls from the previous years.

The Picture of the Month team are always on the lookout for volunteers to help select the pictures for the various categories: http://www.theroyalforums.com/forums/f14/volunteers-wanted-picture-month-teams-15874.html

chat.gif

Andy has installed a Live Chat for the members to use. It has not been up for long, but has proven to be a way for posters, moderators and administrators to interact on a social level. The new Live Chat can be found here: http://www.theroyalforums.com/forums/misc.php?do=flashchat&room=1 Stop by for an interesting time.

Bear in mind that the site rules also are in effect in the chat.

trfbanner3.gif

The TRF Newsletter is meant to be a monthly newsletter, "published" around the start of every month. It makes an effort to show some of the things that has happened in the past month around the forum, and also try to show some of the events that we have to look forward to in the month ahead. It may profile a certain royal, or a topic related to royalty.

An overview of previous newsletters can be found here:http://www.theroyalforums.com/forums/f52/monthly-newsletters-overview-13951.html

If you have any comment to the Newsletter you can either send it by PM to one of the editors: Norwegianne, Lady Jennifer or Anna_R, or post it here.

bookclub.gif

The Book Club is our newest venture here at TRF. It is always nice to have someone to discuss the books you read with, and that is what we hope will happen with the book club. It is open for everyone. Guidelines can be found here: http://www.theroyalforums.com/forums/f209/book-club-guidelines-16685.html, and the coming book selections can be found here: http://www.theroyalforums.com/forums/f209/book-club-selections-may-august-2008-a-16531.html.

Here is the schedule for the discussions and chat about the May 2008 Book Club book (King, Kaiser, Tsar by Catrine Clay). If you wish to take part in the discussion during May, you should have read (or be reading) the chapters specified in the thread title. We have divided the book into sections for weekly discussion, and there will be an hour of facilitated discussion at the beginning of each new period. However, the thread will be open for general discussion at all times. Please note that discussion of later chapters than those specified in the thread title is not permitted, and posts containing such spoilers will be deleted. If you have any questions, suggestions, comments, or feedback, please contact Empress, GlitteringTiaras, or Elspeth.

Sunday 4 May: Thread opens for discussion of chapters 1-6 at 4 pm (US East Coast time). Facilitated discussion of chapters 1-6 (4-5 pm East Coast time, 9-10 pm British Summer Time), led by GlitteringTiaras.

Sunday 11 May: Facilitated discussion of chapters 1-10, with emphasis on the new chapters (4-5 pm East Coast time, 9-10 pm British Summer Time).

Sunday 18 May: Facilitated discussion of chapters 1-15 (4-5 pm East Coast time, 9-10 pm British Summer Time).

Sunday 25 May: Facilitated discussion of the whole book, including the Epilogue (4-5 pm East Coast time, 9-10 pm British Summer Time).

Saturday 31 May: Live chat in the Book Club chat room to talk over the book (starting in the morning and running for the rest of the day).

Sunday 1 June onward: Thread is available for anyone to post about the topic, regardless of whether they've read the book. This is the time for recommendations and discussion of other books and wider-ranging discussion of the book topic in general.

The moderating team is the people who try to keep this forum under control. We try to ensure that everybody has a pleasant experience posting here at The Royal Forums, and that the rules are followed.

People can join the moderating team in two ways; the administrators may notice or get tips about posters who behave exemplary and are contributing members to the forums and who would make great moderators and ask them if they would like to join the team, or they send an application to join to the administrators. Any acceptance, of course, depends on which forums we need moderators for as well as previous behaviour by the poster.
