Please help!
I am struggling to link a photo/picture from Imageshack to my posts.

I am registered with Imageshack and have hosted my photos, I click in the link box for Forums and copy and then paste it to my post when I preview the post I can see the thumbnail but when you click on the picture Imageshack opens but you don't see a larger version just there homepage. I have tried to paste just the link but this doesn't seem to work either.
What am I doing wrong?

Is it easier to use photobucket?

Thanks for the support

I think I understand the rules but I have a little problem.
If I find a photo, I can post the link to this photo, right? But what can I do if I find a very pretty pic of Stephanie although I was looking for a photo of Caroline and I have no idea where I can post this photo? And some days later, I find a threat where I could post Stephanie's photo but I can't find it anymore . . . I mean, is it possible to keep photos save?
Maybe this question is a bit stupid but I'm not computer literate
Hope you can help me

If you have an account at a photo-hosting site like Photobucket, you can save photos there and then post a link to the photos in your post here. That means that you can store your photo of Stephanie when you see it, and it'll be in your Photobucket album for when you might need it later. However, the photo-hosting sites have their own rules about saving copyrighted photos, so you need to be aware of what they allow and what they don't allow.

Otherwise, if you find a photo of Stephanie and don't have anywhere to post it but you think you might want to post it in the future, you can save the URL of the page in your bookmarks (maybe in a folder labelled Monaco photos or something) so you know where to find it later.

Whether pics are posted as small thumbnails or full size they are still subject to the copyright law unless you have taken them yourself or have the written permission of the copyright owner to reproduce them.

As copyrighted images cannot be posted directly in the Forums you must use the url link to the hosting site or website.

For the ins and outs of pic posting and copyright, please see Member FAQs.

Let's say I go on Corbis or Getty or one of those sights with 3 trillion pictures on it and find a couple of pictures of my favorite royal, Princess X. I'd love to post these pictures in one of Princess X's threads. I know you need to get ImageShack or Tiny Pic or something like that, and I know how to work that out fine. What I'm nervous about is copyright laws. Would the copyright be Corbis/Getty etc., or the photographer, or something else? And how would I contact the person to see if I could use the image of Princess X?

Edit: I know this question is probably answered a thousand times on here, but unfortunately I couldn't find it anywhere.

Don't worry about asking; it's a fairly complicated (and from our point of view fairly annoying) business. If you're going to get an ImageShack account and post your photos as links to your album at ImageShack, we don't require any sort of copyright statement or anything of the sort.

However, as a member of ImageShack (as opposed to a member of TRF), you'll have signed up to their rules and terms of service, and you'll probably find that they don't allow people to store copyrighted photos in their albums. They don't police their members' accounts to look for violations, but they'd tell people to remove copyrighted photos if a copyright owner complained about individual cases.

Our recommendation is for our members to post links to the original source (the page at Getty or Corbis with the photo). However, knowing that some of these photos don't last very long at those photo-agency sites and knowing that some of our members like to store the photos in their ImageShack albums, we do allow links to ImageShack and other hosting-site album pages. Strictly speaking, if you want to take a photo from Getty or Corbis and put it in your album at ImageShack, you need permission from Getty and/or the photographer. However, as you can see from looking at ImageShack albums, that isn't something which people tend to do, and it isn't something that anybody tends to get particularly upset about.

As far as TRF is concerned, you only need to get permission from the copyright holder (usually the photographer, but sometimes the agency will share or hold the copyright) if you're planning to post the photo itself in the threads. The chances are that the agencies wouldn't grant permission anyway for someone to take one of their photos and stick it into a thread in an open-access forum like this, and even if they did, it costs a fair bit of money (I've heard something like a couple of hundred dollars per photo). If you're just posting a link, you don't need to get permission.

If you want to stay within the letter and the spirit of the copyright law, you're best off just posting links to the pages at Corbis or Getty. But links to copyrighted photos at hosting sites like ImageShack are very common all over the Web, in articles, blogs, forum posts, and so on, and most of the time it isn't a problem.

If I go on ANP and find a good picture, can I just post the link of the picture, or is that hotlinking? And does it go with copyright rules, since the link is to ANP?

If you go to my Photobucket album and post this (a photo I have the photographer's permission to post, btw, so there's no copyright infringement here as long as I'm the one posting it)

you're hotlinking, since it comes from someone else's website (i.e., mine).

If you post it this way, as a link

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f2...ts/Queen_3.jpg

you aren't hotlinking.

How can I post pictures, so instead of having to post the entire link, I can just say "Like this one here", and clicking here would take you to the link?

You need to copy the link as though you were going to post it in full.

Then you type "like this one here"

Highlight "here"

Click on the little globe symbol above the dialogue box and you'll get a small window saying "hyperlink" with a couple of boxes. The top box says "Type" and the default is http, which is the one you'll need. The bottom box says URL, and it says http://.

Delete the http:// from the bottom box if your saved link already contains it (which it usually does), paste the link into the box, and click OK. It should automatically replace "here" with a link.

To do it manually, you need the following (without the spaces)

[ url=http://blahblahblah.com ]text you want to highlight[ /url ]

We've been getting warnings from members that some Supload photos are being replaced by pornographic images. This seems to be becoming more common recently.

If you see a photo or link with a problem like this in one of your own or anyone else's posts, please contact a forum moderator or administrator to remove it.

If you're using Supload for your photo hosting, you might want to check your albums fairly regularly to make sure that the photos are still as they should be; you might also want to give some consideration to moving your photos to another photo-hosting company. If you do decide to do this and you want to update the links or photos in any of your posts, please contact a forum moderator or administrator to assist you.

Question

Elspeth, I posted yesterday the link of a beatiful and refreshing landscape in Your Weather (2). It is too small. I went to Photobucket but could not enlarge it. Might I enlarge it with some forum tool here?

Hi tan berry,

You can (apparently) only reduce the size of your picture when you upload. There's a column where you can choose what size you want your picture to be. As you can see here : http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/d...tte/Image1.png
