Kelly, attachments are permitted as long as you're posting a recently issued photo of royals in the Current Events thread or a recent wedding or christening or other event like that. It's only the old photos that may not be attached.

tbhrc, I also can't see a lot of the photos that are posted via hosting sites, especially ImageShack. I've been told that my computer's firewall is blocking them (along with a whole lot of other useful things).

That's pretty much what I have to do in order to see the photos too. It's annoying, but at least it works.

I have an article from one of our local magazines that I would like to post. Could someone tell me how to go about it and also what are the restrictions for posting a magazine article and photos. ( Copyright etc.)

Thank you

A big thanks for everyone's help with the picture posting question. I have another question. I have a photobucket account and haven't quite figured out how to post pictures to this site from there. Is it the same as imageshack or different. Thanks for the help.

Photobucket is easy.

Just click anywhere in the IMG box and it will highlight all the code.
Edit - COPY.
Go to your new post.
Edit - PASTE.
Click on 'Preview Post' to see how it looks.
do any adjustments for font, headings, pic credit, layout etc.

Done!

Thank you
The main restriction for publishing articles is the copyright law. We cannot post any more than 20% of the article, we provide a link to the original source so that the full article can be read; we acknowledge the copyright holder.

Pics can only be attached directly to the Forums (ie thumbnails) in the Current Events threads; otherwise they must be hosted via a free hosting site such as Imageshack, Photobucket, Tinypic etc. Nothing is to be hotlinked under any circumstances, this is bandwidth stealing. All pics must have the pic credit of the copyright holder (generally the source) stated in your post.

Here are the Rules for Attachments in detail.

hi everyone! just a question, particularly for Photobucket users--

If you use the 'Tag' function, will it appear on the post as a thumbnail link, the way ImageShack works? i haven't tried using the 'Tag' function (i didn't want to until someone has done the same :o ) , and FAQs and Tutorial on Photobucket don't really help.

thanks!

Why don't you try it and then click on 'preview post'? That way you can see what it looks like in your post. If it doesn't work, go back to using the IMG code.

OK a couple of things about Photobucket.

I'm assuming that you've opened an account and have logged in.

Once you log in, you'll see a blank field with a Browse button near the top of the window. Click the Browse button and then select the file from your computer in the dialog and click the Open button. It won't open the file, it just tells Photobucket to upload this file. Then the dialog will disappear and you can click the Upload button to upload your photo.

Code is the string of text you can paste in your post or your website to make the photo appear.

When you first upload the file, you only get the following code:

URL: web address of your photo You can use it to email a link to your photo to someone but its not good for posting in the forums because other members can't see your photo in the post.

TAG: HTML code that can put a clickable photo on your website if you have one. HTML code doesn't work when you post in the forums though. I've found it less than useful even on my own webpages because when you click on the photo it just goes to photobucket's home page. You can modify the code a bit to make it go where you want to but that's too much hassle for me.

IMG: this is the most familiar code here because it was built for forums like TRF. It puts a full-size image in your post. If you want to post full size images in the forums, this is the code to use.

Code for thumbnails isn't automatically generated when you upload photos but you can tell Photobucket to generate thumbnail code so you can post clickable thumbnails in your post.

Click in the checkbox underneath your photo and scroll all the way to the bottom of the page. Then click the Generate HTML and IMG Code button. A window will appear with lots of different code including one for for IMG Clickable Thumbnails for message boards. This is the code you want to copy and paste into your posts to get a clickable thumbnail.

As Warren said, if you want to preview your post, you will be able to test your thumbnails in the preview window.

Hope this helps.

Paty,

As informed here, attachments were disabled for the time being. Please host your images through ImageShack, TinyPic, Supload, etc in order to post them here.
