Yes they are but i see that they are stop uptaded back June. No fashion Polls anymore?

I believe they're at the start of the various fashion threads. I'm not one that overly follows fashion so this is just my guess. ?

We've put the fashion polls on hold, as the picture hosting site we've used has increasingly caused problems. There were too many glitches and annoying pop-ups. So far we haven't found another photo site to host the embedded photos, so at this point in time we can't say whether or when or in what kind of form the polls will be back. But it's good to know that there is an abiding interest in the polls!

The site does not seem to be forcing (or to support) the use of https. Basically, all the information that goes back and forth between your computer and the site is not encrypted. The reason that it changes from the grey "info" notice that you're not secure (which you get when you're just reading) to a red exclamation symbol (when you make a post) is that it's aware that you're sending information and is warning you in case you're sending something sensitive.

In practice, for a site like the forums, the risk is pretty low; once you're logged in, you're not entering your financial information or any personal information.

The login page does appear to force https, which means your login and password are (AFAICT) sent using encryption.

So, TL/DR -- the risk isn't huge, unless you're actually someone who'd get in trouble for reading and posting on these forums AND someone happened to be snooping your traffic to and from the site.

As noted by hel in an earlier post last year google began to push websites to use https instead of http as a security update. A few months ago they began to actually began to display that little red triangle;"not secure" on browser address lines.

We hand coded an update to make the LOGIN page https. This is the page where user credentials are passed and the only sensitive data we store. Once a member has logged in the site reverts to http (and the alert begins to display in browsers). Using https on all pages actually breaks some things the forum. Offsite links and hosted images no longer work, ads don't display, photos, etc.

So... as you login the page is secure (https) but once you have logged in the regular site is http. Since no login/pass info is being sent on these pages we believe this is safe and reasonable. There's little we can do to change this until we move to a new forum software platform which eventually we will have to do.

Yeah, the need to move everything to https seems.. overblown. On a leisure web forum like this, even the risk of the login page would be mitigated if we knew everyone was following proper password hygiene and using a different password for each website.

Hello,
a quick question with regards to the forums are there hidden sub forums which require a certain number of posts to gain access to the sub forums? For example the Ruling Families of the United Arab Emirates forum has 125 viewers but these viewers don’t seem to be equally dispersed between the threads apparent to me.

We have a admin/moderator forum that is accessibele for the mod. team only. And there is a subforum for the people that write/wrote for the blog. They use the subforum as a convenient tool to write/edit these blog posts.

Other than that there are no 'hidden' forums .

I was wondering, in terms of the"rankings" of posters-e.g. "Newbie, Commoner, Serene Highness" etc that appear for users, is there any merit in looking at how these "rankings" are given out. Without dragging the Sussex's into everything, during a back and forth in a Sussex thread I started to think the other poster, with a higher ranking, must know more, be more familiar with the forum etc but when looking at all their posts almost every single one has been in a Sussex thread. Is there not some merit from higher rankings / ratings coming from interactions across a range of threads, even if within the same RF sub heading (I get this is probably not possible technically but hey). It may help give more balance to some of the more difficult threads

Its my understanding that the ranks or "titles" under a posters name reflect the amount of posts they have made in total to the threads overall. The count does not include areas such as Member's Corner but pertains only to the threads discussing royalty.

Its no indication of how much one knows or how informed one is on a vast array of different royal families and subjects but based on participation alone. Trust me, this is still my favorite site to check off my daily "learn something new today" box.

The "rankings" underneath poster's usernames is, as Osipi mentioned, linked to the amount of posts the individual poster has made in applicable forums at TRF (all forums except for the Member's Corner forums count towards your post count). The higher your post count, the "higher" ranked title you have. The titles are something the original admin team set-up and has no bearing on any interactions / etc. They are really there for fun.

These are the titles, and the required post count levels:

Newbie: 10 or fewer posts
Commoner: 11 to 50 posts
Gentry: from 51 to 100 posts
Aristocracy: 101 to 250 posts
Nobility: 251 to 500 posts
Courtier: 501 to 1,000 posts
Serene Highness: 1,001 to 1,500 posts
Royal Highness: 1,501 to 2,000 posts
Heir Presumptive: 2,001 to 3,000 posts
Heir Apparent: 3,001 to 6,000 posts
Majesty: 6,001 to 10,000 posts
Imperial Majesty: 10,000 posts and above

Pop up problem

In the last few weeks I've had a blank pop up appear (laptop user) at the bottom of my screen, every few pages. It's really annoying having to close it down each time. Am I doing something wrong? I like to open several links at once.

I've also had this pop up when I log into TRF. Totally blank and even right clicking doesn't give me any information why its there. I close it out and am OK until the next time I log into TRF and there it is again.
