Default Extreme slowness with the forum

I wonder if anyone is still having problems as a result of the forum tinkering that was done this past weekend? I am finding access from home (on two different computers) to be extremely slow. It takes a page a minute to load up, while similiarly-laden forums such as the Crown Princess Mary Elizabeth MB, which has as many pictures, avatars, signatures, etc. loads up quite efficiently. I am in fact able to skim through two threads there while I am waiting for one to load up here.

Anna helped me to clean out my cookies and my temporary internet files and the like on both IE and Firefox to no avail.

At work the forum runs efficiently, but it's only at home that I am finding it frustratingly slow. Since it can't be a computer problem since I've tried two different ones, does anyone have another idea about what it might be?

I haven't had any issues (knock on wood), beside my computer freezing up/locking up- but I don't think thats because of this site. Could there be something with your spyware/anti-virus programs? Could they for some reason clash with your internet browsers? Not sure if that could cause a problem.

Thanks for the suggestion Jennifer. I did just install new anti-virus software at the same time as this forum was having upgrades. But could it be the anti-virus program if this is the only forum that gives me troubles?

I will check ... if anyone can help me with where to check and what to look for in my anti-virus software that prevents me from using this forum efficiently?

Alex, have you tried other vbulletin boards? I don't think the Crown Princess Mary board runs the same software that vbulletin does. See if you have any problems with Royal Blue. If you're using the same browser at work as you're using at home, the chances are that it's something with the system at home which is affecting both your computers.

Don't you use a Mac somewhere? Is that any better than your PC?

I haven't had a problem with this forum, so far in terms of slowness or lag time. There's a lot of things that cause websites to run slow or your computer to run slow, and it doesn't always have to do with anti-virus software. Perhaps your computer is in need of a hard drive upgrade, or maybe the site itself is having issues....sometimes it's even the browser you use. I use Firefox and have had no problems.

I've tried Royal Blue now and I can access it just fine, moving through various threads there.

I use a Mac at work and a PC at home. Any forums I visit work fine at work and at home all the forums but TRF work fine. At home I have tried both Firefox and IE, both of which have similar slow results here.

I thought it was my computer, too. But then I borrowed my brother's brand new computer (bought two weeks ago, so it's pretty new whereas mine is ancient at three years!) and hooked it up in my home internet connection and it was just as slow.

So I am at a loss now as to what to do.

Does anyone know how I might check my anti-virus/spyware program to see what might be clogging up just this forum?

Could it possibly be your internet connection. If you've used your brothers computer as well as your own on your internet connection maybe its the connection? I've had problems before with my internet connection (overall) & I have to turn it off & then turn it back on (on my router)- not every site was affected the same way when I had issues with the connection.
As to check about the anti-virus/spyware, I'm not to familiar with how to check it out

Well, this is where I'd be on the phone to Geeks On Call, but maybe a computer wizard here can help. It does sound as though you've got something going on with the settings on this site and your system at home.

Does the forum work any better when you aren't signed in? And if not, could you get your brother to try it on his machine in his home?

I've tried now one of Andy's other forums, The Fashion Spot and everything over there seems to work efficiently for me. So it is something only with this forum. It is truly frustrating. I wonder if anyone can tell me how to cross check my settings on this site to other sites?

Alexandria, lately I have had the exact same experience with slowness at TRF as you do; I work from home and have a fairly fast and new computer - and I have no speed problem at other sites - only here.

...glad to know that I'm not the only one who's having this problem. It was starting to bother me.

In a warped way, thank goodness for you sharing this problem UserDane! I couldn't figure out why it was just this forum when I had cleaned out all my cookies and the like as Anna had suggested. I wonder now if there are other suggestions since two of us are having this problem?

TRF is also a bit slow for me - when I use Safari, Netscape, Mozilla or Firefox, but when I use Opera it speeds up. I have no idea why, though. It's usually just two seconds, or something like that.

I've asked Andy about it.

When did this problem start? (just so we can see if it coincides with any changes he was making around the forum)

I don't know if it's the site in general or your individual computers, because I haven't had any problems accessing this site at all.

Wow, my first post !

You're not alone Alexandria. I've been having the exact same problem for a couple of weeks now. I have DSL and use Internet Explorer. It usually takes a minute or more for each page to load. It's gotten so bad that I usually have two windows open, so I can continue surfing while I let the next page I want to read load. This is the only site I'm having problems with.

Hi Jennifer -- I do exactly what you do, too. I have two windows open, one for here and one for another place so that I am not just tapping my fingers waiting for pages to start.

The problems started for me two weeks ago. I think there was some work being done to the forum and simultaneously I had had new anti-virus software installed so I thought it was just me.
