King Olav remembered

King Olav V of Norway's life will be the subject of a major exhibition at the palace. Open Palace 2003 is completely dedicated to the 100th anniversary of King Olav's birth. Olav's son King Harald officially opens the exhibition on Saturday.

The English-born Olav's cradle, christening robe and school desk will be among the objects on display at the special palace celebration, alongside toys and memorabilia from his youth in Norway.

The exhibition will also commemorate King Olav's life as a sportsman, family father and soldier and will run until August 17. The 100th anniversary of the birth of King Olav V is July 2.

Oslo/Kristiania Nov. 25, 1905. King Haakon VII arrives in Norway as king, and is received at the quay by Prime Minister Christian Michelsen. The king has his son Olav on his arm. When the union with Denmark was dissolved the Norwegian throne was offered to Danish Prince Carl, who took the name Haakon VII.
