The late Queen of maori was a historical figure and great representative of her people.
Thank you for sharing such valuable and unique info.
 
One is glad to be of service Kasumi. Thank you so much for your contributions. Once the current renovations on the King's residence are completed I hope to be able to take some photos personally and post them here.

I agree, the late Maori Queen was and is a continuing inspiration for us as a people. Her poise and grace is something that her son and his family need to emulate. I sincerely hope they become more respectful of the high calling he has been given and the very important institution it represents.

Kiingi Koroki, the 5th Maori Monarch seated with his wife Te Atairangikaahu to the far left, the Governor General of New Zealand seated to her left and his wife seated to the left of Kiingi Koroki. Te Puea Herangi (a daugther of the 2nd Maori King Tawhiao) sits in front at the feet of the Maori King.

FYI - this is a position of honour and spiritual guardianship. Her presence at the feet of the King and in front of him is to help ward of any bad energy (for want of a better phrase) that my be directed at him.

Another view of Mahinarangi and Turongo which with Raukawa Iti form the official residence of the Maori King or Queen at Turangawaewae Marae. This is a small and humble home and reflects the tribes weakened economic position...something that is only being rectified now several decades later.

HM the King of the Royal Bafokeng Nation visited New Zealand at the end of 2011 where he met with many Maori including Te Arikinui Kiingi Tuheitia GCOCT, KCLJ, OStJ the Maori King at his residence.

He also paid a visit to Te Kura Maori o Nga Tapuwae a full immersion Maori language school in Mangere New Zealand.

This has yet to be verified by reliable sources but if this is the case then the King will have a fight on his hand. If he continues to act like an Absolute Sovereign then his people will eventually ignore him, curb his powers further and possibly cut off or severely limit the finances to him and his family.

It makes my heart weep to compare the antics of the King and his family to that of his blessed mother the late Te Arikinui Te Atairangikaahu. Her grace, and poise and elegance earned her the love and admiration of her people...hence their nickname for her, The Lady.

Kiingi Tuheitia will either bring about his own demise or the demise of the entire King Movement. I say if he threatens to abdicate again...let him. It should be passed onto his cousin Nanaia Mahuta whose father was a brother to the late Te Atairangikaahu.

There are also a long list of misdemeanors including the trashing of a luxury hotel suite in Hawaii which required a member of the Kahui Ariki (Senior members of the royal family closely related to the King) to fly over and pay the substantial bill and to retrieve a restrained Whatumoana. Senior figures within Maoridom are also tiring of his diva antics and are refusing to accommodate his "ladies in waiting" (aka his...metrosexual friends) at official functions while he is representing his father.

My wish is that it goes to another line in the family rather then to his children. The Mahuta family would be the most appropriate line that is very closely related to the King. Labor MP Nanaia Mahuta is the niece of the late Te Arikinui Te Atairangikaahu and cousin to the current King...she would make a wonderful Queen.

Actually TeManawa was asked and accepted succession in July 2007. She is the grand daughter of Koroki through birth although publically unknown she is amazing.

Nga Puhi already are in control of the Kingitanga. Not only is all Dame Te Atairangikaahu's children Nga Puhi on their fathers side but Nga puhi openly claim they can control and manipulate Tuheitia due to that fact.

TeManawa accepted succession when Tuheitia threatend to abdicate, she is the birth grand daughter of Koroki. Nga Puhi committed their full support to her and recently she was notified that there is intention to remove Tuheitia and place her. The elders are calling this "The Restoration" as she is already carrying the active authority and her line is being restored putting TePuea's vow on her death bed to do so in place also. Temanawa is little known publically but well known by those that do for her foresight, honesty, dedication, courage, and commitment
 
Prior to colonization each tribe had a chief, each member of the chiefly families were described as princes and princesses during the early days of colonization, based on this how many princes and princesses would NZ have and what would the Maori kings claim be to being the Maori "king of NZ"? I would assume that if one lived in the bottom of the south island, the claim of the Maori king would be rather weak as they would have their own family.
I think this is an important question as the Maori king is now giving an address on NZ TV at Christmas, which was traditionally reserved for the British monarchy in NZ. :flowers::flowers:

First Reigning Monarch decorated with new Kiingitanga honour

I was trawling through photos recently to see if I can see a high resolution photo of the Kiingitang Honours worn at the 2015 Coronation of King Tupou VI and Queen Queen Nanasipau'u and discovered that the King had worn the Star of one of the Orders. One presumes it to be the Order of King Potatau.

I say presume as there is scant information available regarding the Orders, current recipients and there hasn't been a public investiture. When the honours system was announced it was advised a publication would be released, but as of yet there has been no release date. I know that the Kiingitanga website is being relaunched, and with the 10th anniversary of The Kings Ascension coming up in August this year, it might be the perfect opportunity to launch all these elements at once.

Notice the bottom star on King Tupou VI, this is the same as worn by Makau Ariki Te Atawhai in previous posts on the Tongan Coronation thread. This is The King after his coronation, I think its a kind symbolic gesture of strong and enduring relationship between the Houses of Tupou and Potatau.
