Crown Princess Himani reminds one of Princess Alexandra of Denmark in a way.

Yes, especially her smile. She also reminds me of Datin Faezah of Brunei. CP Himani is certainly pretty.

I was wondering if they put eyeliner on the little Princess Purnika's face or it is her natural look. Or is it the culture to emphasize eyes even for little girls?

I think it is kohl. I'm not familiar with the Nepalese culture but I've seen toddlers in Pakistani magazines sport the same "smokey-eye" kinda look. I think this custom extends to some Arab countries as well.

His Majesty King Gyanendra who is on an unofficial visit to the Eastern Region granted an audience to former Prime Minister and chairman of Rastriya Janashakti Party (RJP) Surya Bahadur Thapa in Dhankuta Saturday.
Thapa flew to Dhankuta, his hometown, by a chartered helicopter to ‘welcome’ the monarch who was there Saturday afternoon. Reports said the King granted Thapa a brief audience.

Nepal's King Gyanendra has promised general elections in the Himalayan kingdom next year.

The move is being seen as the first step towards restoring democracy in a country that has witnessed nothing but violence over the last year.

It is also being considered a victory of sorts for students, activists and the seven-party opposition alliance in the country that has been fighting for democracy.

...King Gyanedra, who ascended the throne in the aftermath of a mysterious palace bloodbath in June 2001, which took the life of Birendra, initially said that he wanted to play a "constructive role" in the political sphere.

After a coup attempt 14 months ago, he unveiled a roadmap he said would put Nepal on track to democracy in three years. His subsequent steps, however, went in the opposite direction, and his ambition to appear to be the head of a powerful monarchy led him to where he is now.

The formation of an all-party interim government would be a good start.

Unfortunately, the current monarch and his heir both seem to have very little concern for anything beyond their own agenda. If the monarchy in Nepal fails, it could be because there is no one suitable who can command the respect and admiration of the people (like King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother were able to do in England).

Nepal's king caves in to opposition and calls for new prime minister

KATHMANDU (AFP) - Nepal's King Gyanendra caved in after two weeks of pro-democracy protests and asked the opposition to name a new prime minister in a speech to the nation

"We return the executive power of the country to the people," he said on state-owned Nepal televison on Friday.
"We request the seven-party alliance to recommend a name for the post of prime minister who will have the responsibility to run the government."
